HUCK
Formerly known as “The Lucky Dog,” Huck, a Wired Haired Portuguese Podengo, has found an exciting new life in the Hollywood spotlight. Teamed up with his new owner and animal actor trainer, Mike Miliotti, Huck is busy “struttin” his stuff------working the photo shoots and auditions in anticipation of his big Hollywood break!

The Wired Haired Portuguese Podengo, Medio, is an intelligent, high energy breed, popular in the movie industry due to their scruffy, non-pure bred look. WPM, WM movie credits include: The Lake House, Soccer Dog, Monster-in-Law, Secondhand Lions, Dante’s Peak, Zeus & Roxanne, Three Wishes, Homeward Bound 2, and Cheaper by the Dozen.
Although Lucky is very deeply missed, we are all very grateful that he has found his “job” to do and can’t wait to see him on the big screen. All dogs should be so fortunate.

STEWART
Stewart, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi is owned by Kim Shoopman, Owner & Head Trainer of our Sit Means Sit Ventura County location. One Sunday afternoon, Kim received a call from a client to let her know the local animal rescue exhibit had a corgi available for adoption. With her two other corgis in hand, Kim made a visit to the rescue group “just to take a look.” The rescue told Kim that Stewart was found at a Los Angeles County animal shelter where his owners refused to claim him. He was an escape artist, constantly climbing a six foot chain link fence only to run away. When Stewart was picked up by animal control, he was injured and had internal bleeding resulting from a kick to the side of his body.
Stewart no longer climbs fences unless Kim asks him to! He spends his days happily demonstrating his abilities (he’s really just showing off!) and accompanies Kim to visit her Sit Means Sit clients, never to be on a leash again!
Pembroke Welsh Corgis are highly active and agile dogs with a clownish personality. The Pembroke’s history can be traced back to the late 1800’s where they were first exhibited in Welsh agricultural shows. Bred to herd cattle, the corgis “dwarf” physical characteristics enable them to nip at the heels of the cattle and roll to avoid being kicked.
Stewart, a corgi owned by Kim Shoopman of Ventura County Sit Means Sit Dog Training, learns bite work on the puppy sleeve.

Boomer resting at the hotel after a long day of work!

Boomer at the Las Vegas Pet Expo after just one week of training!
Boomer is a four year old Portuguese Podengo who recently found his permanent home with Kim Shoopman, Owner and Head Trainer of our Sit Means Sit Ventura County location. Boomer was imported from Portugal by his original owner at eight weeks of age. After two and a half years, Boomer earned the title “difficult dog” and was given up to a Podengo Rescue/Breeder where he spent a year as a stud dog, primarily living in a crate. When Boomer came to Kim, he was flat with no confidence. He held his head low, he would not take food from the hand, he was not social, and, he was dog-dog aggressive. After a few days of training, Boomer’s personality finally began to sparkle! He has become a happy and confident dog who is eager to learn. As a natural warren hound, Boomer likes to spend his free time hunting the yard in hopes of finding that prized squirrel or mouse!
