How my dog did on Halloween.

Halloween evening – We thought we’d see just how Lahna would react to all the kids and costumes, not to mention all the extra activity and noise.  I started out with her in the house and at the first doorbell ring she went to the door all excited.  I called her back from the door and told her to sit while my wife opened the door, talked with the kids and passed out candy.  Lahna watched and waited patiently, and, I might add, with no collar reinforcement.  Later, we decided it was such a nice evening that we both would sit out on the front porch and pass out treats.  We took Lahna outside with us, off-leash, and she sat on the porch and just watched all the activity.  She would walk over very calmly to see the kids when they came up to the door, and occasionally receive a pat on the head.  Never once attempting to lunge or jump up on anyone the entire evening!  When the trick-or-treaters would walk back down the sidewalk, I would say “Lahna, come”, and she would come right back over and sit by my chair.

At one point, a man from our neighborhood came down the street with his kids and his black lab.  When Lahna saw the other dog stop in front of our house while the kids came up to our door, she, of course perked up a little.  I told her (once) to sit, which she did and continued to watch the dog walk all the way to the end of our cul-de-sac and back up the other side of the street.  Lahna was wearing her collar all evening while we were outside, and I think I gave her some reinforcement maybe twice!  This was over about 2 hours time and maybe 100 little visitors!

What a difference in six short weeks!!!  Wanda and I both gave Lahna an A+ for her performance last night.
