About Christina Abbott:

Christina Abbott began her journey with Sit Means Sit in 2010 as a client when she and her husband sought the help of trainer Jim Closson with their two very unruly dogs: Kira, a Siberian Husky, and Molly, a Border Collie mix. Kira — being the Husky she is — would run away any chance she got, and would not listen to a single command. Molly was a shelter dog who came with some “baggage” – she had “personal space issues” with other dogs, was food aggressive, and also had no understanding of obedience commands. After completing a Sit Means Sit training program – private lessons and group classes – Christina and her husband were amazed with the results that the non-confrontational SMS system provided for their dogs, and have since added a third dog to their family – Oxa, their German Shepherd.

Having graduated from Boise State University in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and working as an IBI (Intensive Behavioral Intervention) therapist with children with special needs for several years, the motivational Sit Means Sit training system came easy to Christina. Not only did she quickly learn and understand the system, but found working with her dogs to be a therapeutic break from the stress of her full-time job working with kids – many of whom are minimally verbal and often behaviorally aggressive. When given the chance to make her love of dogs and the enjoyment of working with them more than a hobby, she jumped at the opportunity. Christina began working with Jim Closson and learning valuable dog training techniques from him; the reinforcement-driven SMS training methods fitting right in with her knowledge of, and background in, Psychology.

Now, with the Sit Means Sit training system, Christina not only provides valuable training for her clients and their dogs, but aims to help families of those with special needs by training and providing great family and service dogs to support them.

Sit Means Sit Boise started as A Better Pet Dog Trainingin 1989 by professional dog trainer James Closson. James attended Southern Oregon State College at Ashland, where he majored in Pre-Veterinary medicine. While in college James recognized the need for quality dog training. Training that would help dog owners eliminate their pets undesirable characteristics. James successfully completed a formal apprenticeship of over 1500 hours, which included training techniques geared toward puppy imprinting, adult and puppy potty training, behavioral problem solving, Real World Obedience, Advanced Obedience, Police Service and Narcotic Detection and the European dog sport of Schutzhund. Recognizing the value of the Sit Means Sit Dog Training System, James also completed his Sit Means Sit certification in Las Vegas in 2010. In addition to learning from several respected European and American trainers and then spending many years and hundreds of hours researching different training methods from around the world, James took the best available techniques from a variety of different trainers and combined them with the Sit Means Sit Dog Training System.
