Serving the Central Ohio area: SE Columbus, Lancaster, Carroll, Lithopolis, Canal Winchester, Pickerington, Reynoldsburg, Groveport, Grove City, Bexley, Whitehall, Obetz, Upper Arlington, Westerville, New Albany, Dublin, Lewis Center and the surrounding areas. Serving Fairfield, Hocking, Ross, Pickaway, and Franklin Counties.

This is a FANTASTIC example of what your dog has the potential of learning using our Sit Means Sit training. Titan is a German Shepherd who is now fully off leash. Titan is this awesome, and after ONLY 4 LESSONS! You can also see here, how Titan is already sitting at a distance and downing at a distance, and can also do some incredible leg weaving. I’ve seen a lot of fetching, but I’ve never seen anyone using a golf club before. Awesome job, Alex!

Our training facility is easily accessible- located just off SR-33 in Lancaster, Ohio, minutes from Columbus. Terry & Tara Cook began raising and training German Shepherds many years ago. Through their years of experience and research on dog training methods, they found that though leash training and treat training can work, these methods can be unreliable around severe distractions.

So they decided to open this dog training facility based on the Sit Means Sit method of training. With Sit Means Sit, we teach your companion the art of paying attention.

If you are looking for a happy dog, off leash and under total control, this dog training system is for you.

A testimonial from one of our MANY HAPPY and SATISFIED clients…

“We had used other training methods for our Sheltie and just happened to see the vehicle with the logo of “Sit Means Sit” on it at an eating establishment in Pickerington, Ohio, where we live. Sometime later, we called them and Terry came out and started working with us. We never seemed to have time to do our “homework” and we could see that he and Dave were getting a little frustrated with us. We then just stopped even though there was great progress with our dog. Almost a year and a divorce went by and since I had to go out of town for a week, I considered having Terry and the staff pick up the training at their facility. I took the dog to Terry and he discussed what they would do. When I returned and picked up Remington, I was in shock! Was this the same dog I brought in??? I was so pleased, I could hardly talk. Terry showed me what I HAD to do to keep Remington in this wonderful new mode. A little slack on my part and Remington could revert back to his prior self. I am extremely pleased with the devotion and dedication the staff showed both Remington and myself. I would recommend them to anyone remotely interested in making their dog even more of an asset to their family . . . and Remington seems happier as well.

  3. You guys are great, even with my terror who hates grooming, he usually snaps and no one else can groom him, i like how i can also call upon professional dog trainer when I come to your facility for grooming.

  4. terrycook says:

  5. Rita Fishel says:

I have a 4 mo old border/lab/aussie/collie mix. She is a wonderful dog and very responsive to training to this point. I would like to see her reach her potential and wonder if you offer owner training sessions? I would like to be her trainer, and have successfully trained our previous 6-8 dogs. This one seems especially bright and willing to please. I don’t want to shortchange her. Can you let me know if you have group training sessions, and what the cost is? I travel A LOT and would like to have an idea of your schedule. Thanks.

  6. terrycook says:

  13. sarah says:

We will be getting a 9 week old German shepherd in a week, when should we start obedience training? Do you also do protective training? thanks!

  14. Sherrie kelley says:

I just adopted a 6mth old yellow lab (possibly border collie) mix. We have had him two weeks and he is very sweet but needs training. He seems very smart. I separate him and our beagle at feeding time and in just a couple of days he remembered where I put his bowl at feeding time and goes and sits in that spot already as I prepare the food. Never had one do that!!! I really would love to teach this one to be very obeidient off leash. I would love to be very confident and secure at letting him run and play off leash and be comfortable that I can get him to come to me.

  15. terrycook says:

Sarah, thank you for contacting Sit Means Sit! The optimal age to begin training is 12 weeks old. Please give us a call and you can schedule a FREE evaluation with one of our trainers at 740.756.4553 or 614.429.5021. We do protection work as well. Thank you!

I have a 5 month old german shepherd . He is a very smart and loving dog, He wants to jump on people and will not come off leash. He walks well on leash and will sit and lay down on command. (in a confined area) I realize he is a puppy however at 60 lbs already, he is to big to be jumping on people, especially my 3 and 5 year old grandchildren, can you help?

  18. terrycook says:

  19. Alicia says:

Hi! So I heard your advertisement on the radio and I have a 4mo old 40lb mix breed. He is almost too smart for us lol. He has very selective hearing and unless you yell at him to do something he just chooses to ignore you and sometimes even then he still continues to do what he wants, he also tackles anyone that comes in the door until they leave. His biggest problems are jumping on people and even though he is potty trained (we use bell training) he will walk into the living room, look at you, pee on the floor and then run into his cage (Ive had him checked for UTIs and he seems fine). Ive trained all my previous dogs and have never had problems like this. Do you have an ability to help with things like this and what is a rough estimate of rates? We are moving in 2 months and expecting a new baby in 3 and I am hoping to get him settled and start his training fresh so that it is easier for him and not so stressful

  20. terrycook says:

Hi Alicia, Thank you for contacting Sit Means Sit, and we can definitely help your situation! Your next step is to contact the office at 614.429.5021 or 740.756.4553 to schedule a free evaluation with one of our dog trainers. At the evaluation, you will be able to discuss training options, personalized based on what your needs and goals are. The cost of your training package is based on your individual needs and goals, so you will discuss training rates then. Hope to hear from you soon!

Are we allowed to bring our dogs to the Paws in the Pool event on Saturday

  22. terrycook says:

Yes, BRING THE DOGS TOO!! It’s a family event for EVERY member!

  23. Jessica and Zak says:

We have been in one major rut with our 8 mo. old beagle/terrier mix. She is so very scared and growls and nips and hides behind us when someone or a dog comes near. If the dog is calm and she sniffs it for a while she then gets so excited and plays and has fun, but the initial contact is horrid. She is such a loving sweet dog to us but so shy and aggressive to strange people and dogs, this is very upsetting :( . She was starting to come out of her shell until a week ago at the dog park she was attacked by a husky now we are back to square one. I guess this is our fault because when we got her her did not socialize her well enough for the first few months. Now we take her on walks every day and try to get her around people but I feel shes going nowhere. Can you help with aggression such as this?

  24. Sean Little says:

I am located in Newark, Ohio and am wondering if you are available for our area. I have two 10 month old boxers.

  27. Beth Schorr says:

Hi Terry…I was at the Paws in the Pool event that you hosted and filled out a card for an evaluation. I have not heard back from anyone…
My dog’s name is Remmy (a Dutchie) and she was the one who was barking her fool head off at the beginning…maybe you remember her??
I also have a friend who would like to bring her 8mo airdale…go you give group rates?!

  28. Cassandra McGrew says:

I was referred by a family member and told me about the consultation that you give. Our dog Samson is an 9 month old American Bull Dog. He is gorgeous but a brat. He is housebroken for the most part. (First Problem) We do not let him wander the house because he will find things and bite on them and tear them up. What we do is have his leash tied to a chair and he usually will stay in our room or tied to a more heavier object in other sections of the house. When we are not at home he is usually in his kennel. (Second Problem) He pulls a little too much for me when we go walking. I try to calm him down but it is annoying sometime. (Third Problem) Does not always come on command. (Fourth Problem) Jumps up on people. (Fifth Problem) I do not like the play biting. (Sixth Problem) We do not want him on our furniture or in the kitchen. I guess that would be boundary training. How long do you think it would take to correct these issues?

  29. terrycook says:

Hi Beth, I sincerely apologize for the delay. If you could, please call our office at 740.756.4553 or 614.429.5021 so we can set up an eval appt up for you. You can invite your friend and dog to your eval appt if you like, and you and your trainer can discuss discounts at that time. We look forward to hearing from you. Thank you, Beth!

  30. terrycook says:

Hi Cassandra! Thank you for contacting SMS. It does sound like we can help you! Please be sure to bring up all these questions that you have to your eval appointment, and you and your trainer (Terry) can discuss these issues at length and figure out what your best options are. Thank you!

  31. Kathy says:

We have a 9 month old mastidane. We have had him since he was 5 weeks. He is very smart, was so easy to housetrain, only chews on his toys etc!
Big problem….he is terrified of a leash and I have tried walking him but he sits or lays or stands and does not move! When he sees the leash he hides. He also hates a collar. We have not been able to get him to the vet because of this. He has not been their since he was 4 months old. We do not know what to do with him.
We have a 5yr old english matiff and I have even thought Sampson would walk if he is with Goliath but he won’t:( We have had many dogs in our lifetimes and we both have never had a dog like Sampson. He is such a sweet guy but we are at our wits end with him!!!!!!

  33. Julie Stevenson says:

Hello, I’ve heard your ads on the radio. We live in Springfield and wonder if you would cover that area for training? We have 2 dogs; a minature dachsund (that rules the roost) and a lab/golden retriever mix. They are great dogs other than the fact that they don’t listen that well, unless there are treats involved. We live in neighborhood and they bark terrible whenever someone walks by or if another animal is around. Would you be able to help?

  34. terrycook says:

    Julie

I notice that most of the people who are commenting on this site have young dogs or should I say puppies. My dog is 7 years old. She is very smart and “off leashed trained” meaning, I normally don’t walk her on a leash. Most times she listens but is not always consistent. Though a lot better, she is also very timid. Do you think you could help?

Hello, I have a Shih tzu that is shy and needs to be trained. I have signed her up for training classes but we have been told that she is too shy around dogs or other people. The problem we seem to have is, when we are in the room with her and trainers she will just not respond to them or keeps trying to get to us. I go crazy when we are outside in the yard because I have to chase him down to get him back into the house. The dog has control 24/7 it seems. I am inquiring about training and boarding him (if possible) and am questioning rates, and what exactly I can have him trained for??

  44. Brittany Singer says:

I will be contacting you soon!! We have a two year old shepard husky mix who I would love to be able to let her off leash but I do not trust her! She also has a bad habit of barking and jumping on people! You guys sound wonderful! Do you also kennel dogs? I am looking for a trustworthy place for her when we take a trip this summer. She was rescued from the pound and we are very worried about having to take her somewhere for a week.

I have a 9 week old husky in need of some intense training! It’s hard because I work ten hour days until 6:30pm. Do you have any options or any suggestions?? He listens somewhat and knows his name. He is still a young boy, but I need help seeings I’ve never trained a dog!!

  48. Wendy says:

I have a five year old male schipperke/beagle mix and a 4 year old male shiba inu/lab mix. The schipperke/beagle is a huge barker, very hyper and is extremely hard to train. One on one, it isn’t too bad, but when we put the shiba inu/lab into the mix, they are both out of control. We can’t take either off of the leash. We want to train both dogs together. Is this something your facility can offer help with?
