Puppy Training Remote Place Culebra
Alfredo Rivera and his 8 month old belgian malinois puppy Culebra working on remote place. The place command is a wonderful tool to provide your dog a target when working him off leash. In this video we are proofing his understanding of the place remotely using a back tie to help him stay within close proximity of the place – working away from you while he is figuring out what you are trying to teach him. You can also use multiple place boards and a back tie to teach him to move from place to place while learning not to overshoot the target. Franchises available!

Defense of Handler Protection Dog Training with Puma
Sin City Mondio club members Henry Cadiz (decoy) and Misty Million (video) training “Defense of Handler” with Alfredo Rivera and his belgian malinois Puma. This is a very difficult exercise for the dog because he cannot bite the decoy unless he touches the owner even though the decoy is trying to fake him out by nearly touching and waving his arms wildly about the owner. Temptation is great but Puma is showing understanding of the task at hand.

Change of positions in the field with Culebra
Sin City Mondio club members Henry Cadiz (decoy) and Misty Million (video) look on as Alfredo Rivera works Culebra’s “change of positions” in the field within sight of the decoy and his bite work equipment while introducing the touch pad to keep him in one spot. This was an incredibly hard drill with this pup. He is extremely driven when within sight of the decoy.

Introduction to Change of Positions Culebra
Alfredo Rivera and his 7 month old puppy Culebra introducing him to “change of positions” – sit, down and stand. This is the first attempt at teaching him the change of positions using the place as a station to center his energy, food as a lure to help him achieve the different positions and the remote collar to mark the words being taught. We believe in happy dogs under control. Here you see me training my puppy and playing while he learns so that he looks forward to learning new things. Franchises available.

Puppy Dog Training Attention with Sit Means Sit Culebra
One of the most important things we can teach our dogs, when we first begin training is the “place” command. It helps teach our dogs boundaries, self –control and most importantly attention and focus.
If you cannot hold your dogs attention and teach it to filter out distractions it becomes very difficult to teach them anything efficiently.
This is Culebra’s very first lesson learning the place. He is a high drive happy athletic pup. We certainly do not want to change that. We believe in happy dogs under control.
Here you see me training Culebra in drive. I began by playing tug and I will finish the session by playing tug.
Notice that I maneuver him to help him understand and release him only when he looks at me. There are a couple of dogs in the room that provide good distractions for him to make choices allowing me the opportunity to funnel his attention back to me.
During the initial introduction of the “place” drill — it really does not matter to me – if he is sitting, standing or laying down, as long as all four paws are within the boundary and he is staying there on his own even just for a second. We mark the correct behavior with the release and will eventually make him work longer and longer for it.
You are only limited by your imagination on what a “place” can be. The wider variety of “places” you introduce your dog to, the better understanding of the “place” concept your dog will have.
This is the foundation training that allows us to showcase such great attention from our dogs at a distance as they’re understanding develops.
The “place” command also becomes useful to center the dogs energy so that you can re-direct it at will. As well as, providing a target for the dog helping in the understanding to go out away from the handler.
This is a skill my puppy will be drawing on as he moves along in his journey in becoming another Sit Means Sit super star.

Dog Training Tiny Dog with Veterianarian at Sit Means Sit
Although Veterinarians have very little education on dog training while going through Vet school, a good bit of the public still relies on them for dog training recommendations. Many Vets need to be commended for taking their own time to be educated on the various successful ways that dogs can be trained. Knowing that their recommendations are a reflection on them as professionals, it’s obviously sensible to research the successful training methods and trainers available to them in their areas since clients are looking for recommendations on ‘successful’ training and not on ‘unsuccessful’ training or trainers. Their are many trainers that fall into both categories in various training styles, so they do their best to differentiate and to get educated. Sit Means Sit Dog Training does many free educational demonstrations for Veterinarians throughout the world, and brings their dogs a long for the staff and people to see.
