Dog of the month for October 2009

This is Hank, a 6 month old chocolate lab. He is now free and no longer tied to his humans.

This is Sasha. She is a Newfoundland at 8 months of age at the time of this picture. She was already closing in on 100 lbs and putting a pretty good sag into the place board she’s on.

This is Georgia, an 11 month black lab. She is now reliably off leash and no longer tied to her humans. Free at last!

This is Marley, a 7 month old yellow Lab. Marley was adopted as a rescue a couple of months ago. He is incredibly fortunate to have found his forever home with such great owners. Marley’s next progression with training will be in group classes where he can really work on his off leash obedience around some severe distractions.

This is Carson. He’s a Shepherd mix and is already pushing 60 lbs at the age of almost 4 months. He is going to be a monster.

His owners have been very diligent in setting aside time to work with him and the results prove it. I now welcome him into our group classes. Now we’ll really be able to up the ante and have him work under a lot more distraction. Great job, you guys.

This is Bentley, a 7 month old golden retriever. I’m happy to announce that she is 1 lesson away from being able to join our group classes. Bentley and her owners are doing great and the group classes will really put them to the test as we get her to perform under various distractions.

This is Baxter. He is a 6 year old Airedale Terrier. Being a terrier, he has a strong prey drive and loves to chase any and all wildlife. He got himself into trouble a little while ago when he got into a fight with a raccoon while on a walk in the woods near his house. This was when his owners decided to give us a call. They wanted to have the ability to let their dog off leash in those woods and still have the ability to call Baxter to them while at a distance even in the presence of a major distraction such as another raccoon or rabbit etc. They realized some results of the training within the first week as they were again in the woods with Baxter and he took off after a groundhog. Applying the training techniques taught with the Sit Means Sit system, they were able to call Baxter back to them without any incident.

Our first ever Dog of the Month is actually 3 dogs since they all live together and have done all of their training together. From left to right is Jaydaa, a springer spaniel, that is 4 months old, then brothers Raidynn and Mykai are 3 month old Australian shepherd/rottweiler mixes. These three dogs have been a lot of fun to work with as they all have their unique little quirks. These dogs are in great hands as their owners have been committed to their training right from the start. It will be fun continuing to work with these dogs and watching them progress as they grow up in the years to come.
