There is No Money in Making an Indestructible Dog Toy

With five dogs who love to chew, finding toys that would last longer than a day is a real challenge. Over the years we have gone through pretty much every so called “tough” toy on the market. For the most part they each had the same two issues: “tough” meant that they could only withstand our five dog chewing frenzy for a week at best; or they were built in such a way that the dogs weren’t interested in playing with them. We have found two dependable companies that make toys that all of our dogs play with and have withstood the test of time.

Kong

First (of course) is Kong. Our dogs love the classic shaped Kong. They bounce randomly, can be filled with goodies for a little mental stimulation, and most importantly they last. Over the years we have gone through only one “Extreme Kong.” On the downside the Kong branded stuffed toys only last as long as others stuffed toys on the market.

Goughnuts

The second company was suggested to us by one of our clients. Goughnuts makes rubber toys that they guarantee. They claim that if your dog chews through to the “safety indicator” just send it back and they will replace the toy. Not only that, but they are made in the USA, which is a bonus as well. They come in various shapes and sizes, and over the 6+ months that we have had them not one of them has worn though, and our dogs love them. The only downside of the toy is that they are a little heavy, so smaller dogs have a little trouble carrying them around.

We have found that you can put down toys from either of these companies and not have to worry that they will be in a million pieces when you check back in. Some dogs do well with simple stuffed toys and other dogs make it a mission to take them apart stitch by stitch. These toys are for the latter of the two.
