Do you really know what’s in your pet’s food?
Although you may think all pet food manufacturers have your pet’s best interests in mind, this is not always the case. Current pet food regulations allow manufacturers to use ingredients that you would never knowingly give to your pet. In fact, you may be shocked to learn what some brands of pet food really contain. Watch this short presentation before you commit to a brand of food for your loving companion.

Thanksgiving Pet Safety Tips
‘Tis the season for friends, family and holiday feasts—but also for possible distress for our animal companions. Pets won’t be so thankful if they munch on undercooked turkey or a pet-unfriendly floral arrangement, or if they stumble upon an unattended alcoholic drink.
Check out the following tips from ASPCA experts for a fulfilling Thanksgiving that your pets can enjoy, too.
Talkin’ Turkey
If you decide to feed your pet a little nibble of turkey, make sure it’s boneless and well-cooked. Don’t offer her raw or undercooked turkey, which may contain salmonella bacteria.
Sage Advice
Sage can make your Thanksgiving stuffing taste delish, but it and many other herbs contain essential oils and resins that can cause gastrointestinal upset and central nervous system depression to pets if eaten in large quantities. Cats are especially sensitive to the effects of certain essential oils.
No Bread Dough
Don’t spoil your pet’s holiday by giving him raw bread dough. According to ASPCA experts, when raw bread dough is ingested, an animal’s body heat causes the dough to rise in his stomach. As it expands, the pet may experience vomiting, severe abdominal pain and bloating, which could become a life-threatening emergency, requiring surgery.
Don’t Let Them Eat Cake
If you’re baking up Thanksgiving cakes, be sure your pets keep their noses out of the batter, especially if it includes raw eggs—they could contain salmonella bacteria that may lead to food poisoning.
Too Much of a Good Thing
A few small boneless pieces of cooked turkey, a taste of mashed potato or even a lick of pumpkin pie shouldn’t pose a problem. However, don’t allow your pets to overindulge, as they could wind up with a case of stomach upset, diarrhea or even worse—an inflammatory condition of the pancreas known as pancreatitis. In fact, it’s best keep pets on their regular diets during the holidays.
A Feast Fit for a Kong
While the humans are chowing down, give your cat and dog their own little feast. Offer them Nylabones or made-for-pet chew bones. Or stuff their usual dinner—perhaps with a few added tidbits of turkey, vegetables (try sweet potato or green beans) and dribbles of gravy—inside a Kong toy. They’ll be happily occupied for awhile, working hard to extract their dinner from the toy.

Sit Means Sit Search and Rescue dog helps in Tornado Recovery Efforts
By ILAN BRAT
JOPLIN, Mo.—At 10 a.m. on Thursday, a group of canine-search specialists from Texas Task Force 1, the state’s search and rescue division, headed out along the railroad tracks to search for bodies in the devastated section of the city.
They had driven all night from different parts of Texas to help the recovery efforts, two brown Belgian Malinois dogs and a black Labrador retriever traveling in black crates in a white van.
The seven split up, with Brick and Noggin, the Malinois dogs, taking the west side of the tracks and Joker, the Labrador, following the east.
Carla Collins, Joker’s handler, called out “such,” the German word for “search,” then guided him first to the remains of Dillons grocery store.
She, Joker and another member of the team clambered over the collapsed western wall of the store into the alcohol section, Joker unleashed and uncollared. The smell of beer faintly was in the air.
Joker scurried around the rubble inside the store, climbing atop soda bottles, bread and other groceries that covered the floor and under sections of wooden beams from the roof that had fallen down.
“He’s in hunt mode. He’s running around. It’s not a slow thing,” Ms. Collins, who normally runs a dog-training business in Dallas recalled Thursday afternoon.
They scoured the rest of the store, including the foul-smelling meat counter, where Joker climbed on top of a giant rack of cow ribs, but didn’t dig in.
They perused the rest of the store and its surrounding lot, then searched a nearby grassy field of debris, but found no bodies.
Brick and Noggin, the Malinois dogs, searched small houses and an apartment complex but also found nothing on Thursday morning and early afternoon.
“We’re helping people in getting closure,” said Jim Yeager, who headed the team.
After taking a break at about 3 p.m., the team headed out again an hour and a half later with new orders: scour the area around the devastated St. John’s Regional Medical Center.

Client Spotlight Hunter- Snohomish, Wa Min Pin

Owner’s Name: Cindy
Dog’s Name/Nickname: Hunter
City: Snohomish
Zip Code: 98290
Breed: Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin)
Quick Bio: Purebred
Likes: Truck rides, face kisses, burrowing in blankets
Pet-Peeves: No dog biscuits at Starbucks, sharing his toys
Favorite Toy: ANYTHING that squeaks, Nina our Terrier Mix
Favorite Treat: Natural cow ears, licking bowls, Texas toothpicks
Favorite Walk: Centenial Trail, the beach, campgrounds
Best Tricks: Spin, spread ‘em, learning up on hind legs and he howls when he wants your attention
Arrival Story: We had recently put down our outdoor dog, Kodi, due to cancer. Nina, our terrier mix, was moping around and so were we. That’s when we got Hunter, at 1.8lbs, 12 weeks old, from a home breeder. Kodi had been our son’s 4H dog, who is now a Sergeant in the Army. We named him Hunter after our son’s Cav. unit in Iraq, The Hunters.
Hunter loves to play with Nina, crawl up into our laps and snuggles in. When our son Nate and his wife Kate come to visit, Hunter loves to climb on their laps also.
When our other son, Bobby, comes to visit from California, Hunter doesn’t quite jump up into his lap yet, but is taking baby steps towards making progress.
For any of you who have known Hunter from the beginning of his training, you know this is good progress.
Why We Love Sit Means Sit Western Washington: Hunter and I have been coming to Sit Means Sit classes for a year now. Before we started in the program, Hunter had the typical ‘little dog syndrome”. He would bark and bark at everyone and every dog we came in contact with. He was fear aggressive. After the one on one training and ongoing classes I have been able to show Hunter positive direction on good behavior. I have been to many wonderful parks, met a lot of wonderful, fun dog owners while spending quality time with my dog Hunter. Hunter now has direction and is not confused on what I want and expect him to do. He is a much happier dog now.
My Dog’s Motto: “Did you say place, oh goodie I get to place!”

Pool Safety For Dogs – Dog Training Everett, WA 425.681.8032
While many dogs love water and swim well, pools are always a special consideration for dogs in backyards each year. New dogs will need to be observed to make sure they can get in the pool and out on their own and older dogs, even older dogs with a history of happy swimming, will need to be observed to make sure they are as spry in the water as they were the previous year. (Older dogs with dim eyesight are a special safety consideration, especially at night by the water.) All pool owners should invest in a dog ramp and make sure their dogs know how to find and use it.
