Breed: Aussie, Beagle/Border Collie Mix, Pom, Chihuahua Mix
Quick Bio: Dog Rescue
Likes: to play, fetch, tug a war, get the baby
Pet-Peeves: Baths, all done ball play, when I stop petting
Favorite Toy: Rope toys, tennis balls, stuffed animals
Favorite Treat: Chicken jerkey
Favorite Walk: Marymoor Dog Park
Best Tricks: Kisses, roll-over, lay down
Arrival Story: My best friend does a lot of volunteer rescue, fostering and training. I had been established in my house for a few years so I wanted to be a part of the solution to help our furry friends. All four of my dogs are rescues, they are a little pack. That is how things began. They are my whole world, they do make my life whole… each one has such personality and they add lots of laughs to my life.
Why We Love Sit Means Sit Western Washington: I was struggling with my Aussie not listening to me. Marvin showed me a way to be in charge, his style of teaching helped build me back up. The dogs needed me to be more consistently strong. It only took a short time for the dogs to follow my commands and watch and listen. This program is so easy to do! All we needed was the right guidance. This is a great program and a great bunch of people. The positive attitudes are very important and that is what I felt when joining the program… thank you so much!
My Dog’s Motto: “Wanna play you know you want to please… snort…”

Dog’s Name/Nickname: Yukon
City: Woodinville
Zip Code: 98077
Breed: Siberian Husky
Quick Bio: Purebred
Likes: Talking
Favorite Treat: Jerky
Favorite Walk: Woodinville pipline
Best Tricks: Shake your hand
Arrival Story: Was a present to my granddaughter from her husband but there was not room for him in the apartment she was living in, so we got him.
Why We Love Sit Means Sit Western Washington: He’s a Husky and they are runners and very independent. They also have their own ideas about what they want to do. Since he is a sled dog he is very strong and loves to pull. We needed to have more control over him day to day and on walks so it would be pleasant for everyone. Most of this was accomplished in a very short time with Sit Means Sit, much to our liking. This program works very well and we are much happier with the way that Yukon is behaving now. Walks are pleasant functions now, rather than the constant struggles that we had before.

Owner’s Name: Cindy
Dog’s Name/Nickname: Hunter
City: Snohomish
Zip Code: 98290
Breed: Miniature Pinscher (Min Pin)
Quick Bio: Purebred
Likes: Truck rides, face kisses, burrowing in blankets
Pet-Peeves: No dog biscuits at Starbucks, sharing his toys
Favorite Toy: ANYTHING that squeaks, Nina our Terrier Mix
Favorite Treat: Natural cow ears, licking bowls, Texas toothpicks
Favorite Walk: Centenial Trail, the beach, campgrounds
Best Tricks: Spin, spread ‘em, learning up on hind legs and he howls when he wants your attention
Arrival Story: We had recently put down our outdoor dog, Kodi, due to cancer. Nina, our terrier mix, was moping around and so were we. That’s when we got Hunter, at 1.8lbs, 12 weeks old, from a home breeder. Kodi had been our son’s 4H dog, who is now a Sergeant in the Army. We named him Hunter after our son’s Cav. unit in Iraq, The Hunters.
Hunter loves to play with Nina, crawl up into our laps and snuggles in. When our son Nate and his wife Kate come to visit, Hunter loves to climb on their laps also.
When our other son, Bobby, comes to visit from California, Hunter doesn’t quite jump up into his lap yet, but is taking baby steps towards making progress.
For any of you who have known Hunter from the beginning of his training, you know this is good progress.
Why We Love Sit Means Sit Western Washington: Hunter and I have been coming to Sit Means Sit classes for a year now. Before we started in the program, Hunter had the typical ‘little dog syndrome”. He would bark and bark at everyone and every dog we came in contact with. He was fear aggressive. After the one on one training and ongoing classes I have been able to show Hunter positive direction on good behavior. I have been to many wonderful parks, met a lot of wonderful, fun dog owners while spending quality time with my dog Hunter. Hunter now has direction and is not confused on what I want and expect him to do. He is a much happier dog now.
My Dog’s Motto: “Did you say place, oh goodie I get to place!”

Dog’s Name/Nickname: Kinley
City: Lake Stevens
Zip Code: 98258
Breed: Alaskan Malamute
Quick Bio: Purebred
Likes: Meeting every dog and human possible
Pet-Peeves: Getting brushed, going to my kennel
Favorite Toy: Stuffed toys, bouncy balls, Mom
Favorite Treat: Milk bones, Wet Nose Treats (all flavors)
Favorite Walk: Around the neighborhood
Best Tricks: High-five and shake are her favorite but she can ‘wall’ (spread ‘em) pretty well.
Arrival Story: I was searching and searching for an Alaskan Malamute through the rescue league and had no luck at finding a puppy. I finally found a breeder in Maple Valley that had an upcoming litter. I had to wait for her to be born, which was won of the most exciting days of my life. It was finally time to pick her up and she was the cutest ball of fur I have ever seen. I was able to choose which puppy I wanted, and I chose Kinley based on a white spot on her head – she was my snow capped mountain. I already had her name picked out because I wanted something Alaskan (Mt. McKiney) so the choice was easy! Everyday she knows how to make me laugh and smile.
Why We Love Sit Means Sit Western Washington: Kinley loves going to puppy class (what we call all training sessions) to meet new friends. I love Sit Means Sit because I have seen it work. I never thought I would be able to make a 6 month old puppy come to me and then be directed back to her ‘place’ without me following. This program works! I love being able to to get out and do something productive with my pup. Another thing that I love is that I have a breed that is born to pull and I was able to train her not to pull but to walk at a great heel. I remember being in class and seeing the entire class of well behaved dogs and thinking I will never get to that. Well I am here to tell you, I was proven wrong. I also love the off-leash way of life. I have taken her to multiple friends homes and they all comment on what a well behaved dog I have, which I attribute to Sit Means Sit!!
My Dog’s Motto: “If there is dirt, I dig…”

Dog’s Name/Nickname: Charlie & Rufus
City: Snohomish
Zip Code: 98296
Breed: English Springer Spaniel
Quick Bio: Purebred, Breeder
Likes: Anything outside
Pet-Peeves: Lights, flashlights, laser pointers, etc.
Favorite Treat: Duck Jerky
Favorite Walk: Any pheasant release site
Best Tricks: They love to hunt birds. Rufus is an excellent retriever.
Arrival Story: We decided to get Charlie a few months after our previous dog passed away. The breeder is on the peninsula so they asked us to bring an extra puppy back to it’s new owner that lived near us. By the time we had delivered him we had decided to get a second dog for ourselves. Three weeks later we picked up Rufus. They are half brothers but most people can’t tell them apart.
Why We Love Sit Means Sit Western Washington: Sit Means Sit gave us instant understanding and communication with our dogs. Happy, in control dogs get to go many more places with their owners.
My Dog’s Motto: “Outside?”, “You could be using that free hand on me”

Owner’s Name: Eileen
Dog’s Name/Nickname: Antje and Loki
City: Marysville
Zip Code: 98270
Breed: Boerboel and Doberman
Quick Bio: Purebred
Likes: Antjie – sleeping on my bed, Loki – run, run, run, run and play
Pet-Peeves: Antjie – other dogs, Loki – when we can’t get a toy
Favorite Toy: Antjie – new chew bones, Loki – squeaky toys, chew bones
Favorite Treat: Peanut butter in a femur bone
Favorite Walk: Behind my house in the field, run, run, run!
Best Tricks: Antjie – treat on her nose, then catch it. Loki – learning to leave it and can stay in a down position and leave a treat on the top of his paw. If they go to their place/bed when the doorbell rings and keep their barking to a minimum, that’s a good trick!
Arrival Story: Antjie-(Graceful in Afrikaans)my Boerboel came to me in a wooden crate from South Africa at 12 wks old and 20 lbs. She is now 6 years old and weighs about 125 lbs. She is a mommy’s dog without a doubt, follows me everywhere and just wants to be with me. She has been to lots of training and is a good dog. Sit Means Sit is helping her learn to let me be in charge, and to ignore other people and dogs. She recently tore her ACL and had surgery, but is recovering well and will be playing with Loki and running around again soon.
I got Loki (Norse God of Mischief) just about a year ago. I saw an ad at work for a couple of puppies- purebred and FREE! How could I resist. I went to check it out and that’s all it took. He was the biggest of the litter and stole my heart. I try to call him Low Key which he is not. He is a knucklehead and full of energy. He is eager to learn and loves everyone, although he’s shy at first. He also follows me everywhere and doesn’t like being alone.
Why We Love Sit Means Sit Western Washington: The greatest thing about Sit Means Sit is the result! My dogs are responding, and I don’t have to nag or yell like I did before. They are happy and so am I. I have large dogs and people tend to be afraid of them. If they are untrained, they are unpredictable and can be a liability. My dogs have always been fine around me, but I have always been extremely cautious about having them around other people or other dogs. As they are responding to the training, they are getting more freedom. I’m able to have people over and have them around other dogs/animals. When I have company, they lie down and stay quiet. I don’t have to remove them to the back room, or garage anymore. They get to enjoy spending more time with me because they are better behaved. As for the cost, I have probably spent twice what it cost for other training, various gadgets, time and damage. I wish I had started with this training when they were younger. It would have saved me time, money and stress. Sit Means Sit works!
My Dog’s Motto: Antjie-”You lookin a me?” Loki- “Let’s run, run, run!”

Name: Chase
Dog’s Name/Nickname: Rollo
City: Redmond
Zip Code: 98052
Breed: Chihuaha/Terrier Mix
Quick Bio: Mutt, Dog Rescue
Likes: Snuggling on the couch
Pet-Peeves: Hates having to wait for dinner!
Favorite Toy: Squeaky toys, squeaky shoes, squeaky anything.
Favorite Treat: Greenies
Favorite Walk: Meadow Park
Best Tricks: Shake and High-Five
Arrival Story: Chase is an 8-year old boy whose been scared of dogs since he could crawl. With an attempt try to get Chase acclimated to dogs, the family would make occasional visits to a rescue shelter in Shoreline (N.O.A.H.) and would let him look through the windows at the cute doggies. Most of the time he stayed at least two feet from the glass and never wanted to get any closer to the terrifying pooches; however, on one particular visit, Chase pressed himself up against the glass of a room that Rollo was sleeping in. After a few seconds, Rollo looked up from his bedding, and Chase did something unthinkable…he asked to be let into the room so he could pet the doggie. Hesitantly, we opened the door to enter the room, and were startled when Chase burst past us, plopped down on the floor, and let Rollo jump into his lap. Doggie kisses and giggles filled the room. Yep, that was the moment that Mom realized the family had just suddenly gotten bigger.
Why We Love Sit Means Sit Western Washington: Rollo is a rescue dog. We don’t know how his past contributed to his dog-aggression, but this cute little lovable creature turns into Cujo if any larger dogs are around. We called Sit Means Sit with hopes that they could teach us how to help Rollo get comfortable with other dogs. To our surprise, not only has Rollo learned a few new tricks, but he’s been actively participating in group classes (surrounded by the larger menacing puppies that used to terrify him). After only a few weeks, he’s already demonstrating less anxiety around other animals, and has become the star of our household. Sit Means Sit focuses on positive training (something foreign to some of the “traditional” methods we witnessed out there) and not only has it made our dog love his new “career”, but we’ve also learned how to understand him better. That being said, even our own family has learned a few new tricks about communication. We can’t wait till they start making collars in human sizes!!!
My Dog’s Motto: “If you have hands, you should be petting me!”

Name: Liz Robinson
Dog’s Name/Nickname: Rosie
City: Everett
Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix
Quick Bio: Pound Puppy
Likes: Toys, sleeping on the bed, belly scratches, making people laugh
Pet-Peeves: Not getting to go ‘bye-bye’
Favorite Toy: Anything that squeeks
Favorite Treat: Chicken jerkey
Favorite Walk: Running the track
Best Tricks: Jumping straight up in the air 5+ feet, with a butt wiggle
Arrival Story: Rosie was adopted from the Kitsap Humane Society in May 2010. She had been picked up as a stray.
Bio: We turned to Sit Means Sit Western Washington after getting tired of Rosie jumping the fence or dashing out of the gate at any opportunity. She has not been over the fence in months, happily explores off leash at her Grandma’s house and is an all around happy, goofy dog. After losing our beloved 14 year old dog last fall, Rosie has given us lots of smiles and I think she is happy with her choice. We love spoiling a former stray!

Name: Laura
Dog: Tuski (Sometimes we call her Tuski Doodle)
City: Seattle
Breed: Black Lab Mix
Quick Bio: She is a dog rescue
Likes: SWIMMING!! Flyball, playing with her sister (Luka), chewing on everything in the house, meeting new people
Pet-peeves: When mom goes to work, leaving the park, not getting to eat pizza
Favorite Toy: A tennis ball….but only if Luka wants it, otherwise her squirrel squeaky toy
Favorite Treat: To sleep on the bed with mom
Favorite Walk: Anywhere where there is water – even a big puddle will do.
Best Tricks: Turn/Spin, high five, “placing” on high objects
Arrival Story: Tuski was an out of control dog that another family could not handle. She was tied up in the yard or in her crate at all times. We had heard that they might be looking for a new family for Tuski so went to check her out. The first time we saw her she peed all over herself, being very unsure of us. It was sad. When we decided to take her home we learned that she had only been in the car to go to the vet (also sad) and so we began taking her to the park, to the dog store, everywhere we could. We immediately started training with her but could not find anything that would work. She fought us, bit us, and was an all around pain in our &%$#. We were worried. We were determined not to give up on her, however.
The rest of the story: After having Tuski for 8 months now she is definitely a part of our family. Even the cat has started to like her….or at least not hate her. She is sooooo much better behaved too (a lot of this is thanks to Sit Means Sit) – she comes when we call her, stays with us when we go places, doesn’t try to break out of the back yard, and has even rivaled Luka for perfect dog status on some days. Tuski competed in her first flyball tournament last month and did great! She is a very happy girl and has brought us a lot of joy.
Motto: Isn’t it all about me?

Alvy learned to 'Spread 'Em'
Client’s Name: Dr. Renee Gray
E-mail: DrReneigh@lakestevensanimalhospital.com
Dogs Name/Nickname: Alvy (Alvy Singer)
City: Snohomish, WA
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Quick Bio: Purebred/Rescue
Likes: Everybody- dog, human, cat, horse-that likes me-and that’s everyone, right?
Pet-Peeves: Having Mom take away something tasty/gross/stinky/dangerous that I am chewing on.
Favorite Toy: Do chickens count? They are fun to chase and make fun noises when they tumble.
Favorite Treat: The coffee ladies’ milk bones…with whip cream on top!
Favorite Walk: I don’t walk; I prance, bounce, dance, hop, frolic, run….
Best Tricks: We are just starting out, but “spread ‘em” is fun (permission to jump up on things-yipee!)
Arrival Story: It was love at first sight, at least that’s what Mom says. Even Michael (“don’t call me the dog’s father”) fell in love with the texted puppy picture as I drove home from a farm in Enumclaw, WA. I was so happy to find that my new home was a farm, too, complete with a horse, a donkey, and an emu, lots of chickens to chase (and manure to roll in) and two cats that hated me at first but that are starting to realize I’m here to stay.
Bio: Mom needed someone to help mend her broken heart after losing an old friend. When I came home at 10 weeks old, I was just too busy and bouncy to spend time being sad, so took to that job perfectly! At first I really liked chewing on electrical cords, but couldn’t figure out why my humans got so upset about that. Now I mostly chew on the things I’m supposed to, and work really hard at Mom’s veterinary hospital, doing things like warming up and awakening the surgery patients and greeting all the new puppies and kittens. At home I chase the chickens and dumb ol’ turkeys and try not to eat too much horse poop.
Motto: “Life is good, even if I am a vet’s dog!”

Pet-Peeves: Being closed in a bedroom
Favorite Toys: Chase It (Stuffed squirrel on a “fishing pole”)
Favorite Treat: Raw Hides and Turkey

Arrival Story: When Mocha first go into my car to come home from the rescue, she was very nervous and shy. When we got home she spent the majority of the day outside and wouldn’t really come near us. She wasn’t sure what to do around Panini. After about two days Mocha loved being around us and her sister.
Bio: Mocha was found on a golf course all alone and was sent to a shelter in Yakima. They did not have enough room for her so she was to be put down until a rescue took her in just in time. When she was found she had a serious head tilt and the vet found a grass seed stuck in her ear drum so it was partially ruptured. She is now all healed and a very sweet girl!

Arrival Story: Panini came from a rescue with her liter mates to my apartment in Pullman. She was only 4 months old and it was her first time alone so she was nervous. She wouldn’t let me out of her sight and was always close by for the first two weeks or so.
Bio: Panini was found with her mom and 4 other litter mates wandering along the highway in Othello. She was sent to a rescue in Prosser and I was in contact with the owner who informed me of the adopt-a-thon they were having in which Panini picked me more than I picked her. We’ve been inseperable since.
