Testimonial: Steve and Jenn
Hi Ashton,
Steve and I just wanted to let you know how happy we are with Sit Means Sit and the improvements that we’ve been seeing in Brutus and Lola.
Before we started with Sit Means Sit, Brutus was a 4 year old German Shepherd that we thought we managed just fine. We knew he had some issues but we also knew how to avoid them. However, when we adopted Lola (a 16 month old Rottweiler) we realized that Brutus’ issues were much more severe than we thought.
We brought her home on a Friday and walked the two of them together hoping that would introduce them properly. But when we got home and let them sniff each other, it definitely wasn’t sunshine and rainbows. Brutus was never socialized as a puppy so he had zero manners around other dogs – he was constantly trying to “herd” her. That night, we realized we didn’t want Lola to be afraid of him so we had both dogs completely separated, even for outside breaks and eating which was very hard on our schedules (we both work full-time) as well as the dogs.
It was at this point we realized we needed help – and you answered your phone on a Saturday! Our consultation went so well I thought Steve was going to hug you before you left that evening. We were impressed how much you knew about dog behaviour and how it applied to us.
Our first training session you were completely honest about our situation – we were expecting weeks of training before allowing them to be near each other, even with muzzles on. Brutus struggled with allowing a stranger to tell him what to do and to be honest, I was expecting it to be easy so I was a little discouraged.
However by our second training session, we’d come so far with what you’d taught us that we were allowing the dogs to be together (but muzzled).
We’ve attached some pictures that show our progression – even surprising ourselves, by the end of the first week we had both dogs together without muzzles!
Remember what else we said? Brutus will never, ever sit on a recycle bin especially since we spent an entire training session trying to get him near the bin. Now, he’ll sit on a small one and we’re working on a the small stool 🙂
Goes to show you that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks – he’s currently learning how to speak on command and we can’t wait to teach both of them more and more!
We look forward to the distraction training on Saturdays and we consider Sit Means Sit training the best decision we’ve ever made and would recommend this to anyone with a dog, young or old.
Sincerely,
Steve and Jenn
