Dog\u2019s paws are a critical part of their day to day, since they spend most of their waking moments relying on them. Besides being used for walking, running, and standing, your dog\u2019s paws are a type of shock absorber protecting them against surfaces and indicating unnoticeable health concerns.<\/p>\n

Your dog\u2019s feet may be injured and you don\u2019t even notice until they start acting odd. Their paw\u2019s are essential to their everyday health, so it\u2019s important to be aware of any injuries on their foot pads.<\/p>\n

What are Foot Pads?<\/h2>\n

Foot pads are located at the bottom of your dog\u2019s feet, usually rougher in texture and darker toned. They provide your pooch with traction, balance, regulate body temperature through sweating, and provide shock absorption when moving.<\/p>\n

Each dog has three types of paw pads: the digital pad, the carpal pad, and the metatarsal pad.<\/p>\n

Digital Pad<\/strong>– The 4 small pads located on the toes of the foot. They protect the joints and support the weight of your dog.<\/p>\n

Carpal Pad<\/strong>– These are located on a dog\u2019s forelimb and help support their weight.<\/p>\n

Metatarsal Pad<\/strong>– They are located in the foot\u2019s center and are often heart-shaped, supporting your dog\u2019s body during motion.<\/p>\n

Each pad type is contrived of connective tissue, thick skin, and fat. They are tougher, yet still soft, and act as your dog\u2019s foot cushion.<\/p>\n
