Thanksgiving Day Football Dog Treats
Thanksgiving is all about food, family, and friends. While you’re making dinner and spending time with loved ones, your dog wants to be included in all the fun. They will probably try to get in on all your food, but many classic Thanksgiving dishes can be dangerous for them. Because they can get sick from your cooking, it’s always nice to make them feel included by whipping them up some specific treats just for them.
Of course, there is one more exciting activity that takes place on Thanksgiving: football! To combine the Thanksgiving and football fun, making your dog these simple football treats is a perfect addition to the menu. Whether your dog likes to lounge on the couch or is excited to run around with guests playing the backyard, we can guarantee all pups will be a fan of this treat. Here’s how to quickly make these treats with the rest of your dishes so you can celebrate the Cowboys game with your dog on Thanksgiving!
What You’ll Need
- 1 cup of Stella & Chewy’s Chewy’s Chicken Dinner Patties (or some other chicken patty made specifically for dogs)
- ½ cup Chicken Broth Bowls Dog Food Topper (or another type of chicken broth)
- 1 1/3 cup peanut butter
- Be sure your peanut butter does not have xylitol, as it dangerous for dogs
- ½ cup Greek yogurt
- ¾ cup rice flour
- Baking sheet
- Football-shaped cookie cutter
- 2 plastic baggies
The recipe takes about 10 minutes of prep and 20 minutes in the oven, for a total of 30 min. You should get about 10-12 treats out of one batch.
- Start by preheating your oven to 350˚.
- Take the chicken patties and crush them up, enough to fill up one cup. Take these crushed cup of patties, 1/2 cup of your chicken broth, 3/4 cup rice flour, and 1/3 cup peanut butter in a mixing bowl and mix until combined.
- You’ll then want to then knead the dough until the dough is thoroughly combined and ready to be spread. Press and spread it onto a baking sheet.
- Take your football cookie cutter and cut out as many treats as you can with your dough. Arrange them on the backing sheet.
- Throw these in the oven and bake for 20 minutes on 350.
- While they’re baking, you can prepare the additional finishing touches. Put the remaining 1 cup of peanut butter in one plastic bag and the greek yogurt in another plastic bag.
- Cut the tips off of both bags. Pipe the edges of the treats with the peanut butter and then add white lines like a football with the greek yogurt bag.
This treat turns out adorable and we guarantee your dog will love having such a delicious and cute snack at Thanksgiving. Not only will they feel included in the Thanksgiving feast, but they’ll also be able to celebrate the game! Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving.
