Raising a dog can be just like raising a child, and just like with children you\u2019re probably tempted to celebrate every milestone ever. If you\u2019re new to dog ownership then it can be complicated figuring out what milestones are worthy of a party and which aren\u2019t. Here are some first-year milestones you shouldn\u2019t be scared to celebrate with Fido.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGotcha\u201d Day<\/b><\/h3>\n

If you adopted your buddy then this is the first date you should make note of. Gotcha Day can be celebrated every year on the anniversary of their adoption or can be celebrated as a one-off occasion. If you\u2019re celebrating a puppy, then start off by letting them explore their new home. Let them play around and give them as much love as you\u2019re comfortable with. Similarly, older dogs should be allowed to explore their surroundings with a designated spot to relax when they\u2019re done.<\/span><\/p>\n

The First Birthday!<\/b><\/h3>\n

This one is definitely worth a party. Celebrating a dog birthday is just like celebrating a human birthday. <\/span>Bake them a cake<\/span><\/a>, set up some streamers, and invite any friends or family they might have made over the year. Potty training your dog is just as important as potty training your kids, and it can be just as hard, too! <\/span>For puppies<\/span><\/a>, it should take about three months for them to get used to going outside on a regular schedule. If you adopted an older dog then the likelihood of them being house trained is high. Nevertheless, you should remember to take them out regularly, too. That way they can avoid any accidents.<\/span><\/p>\n

Losing their Baby Teeth<\/b><\/h3>\n

We\u2019re sorry to say that collecting your puppy\u2019s baby teeth probably won\u2019t happen. They\u2019re much smaller than human teeth and normally get swallowed during sleep. However, you can still celebrate a mouth of grown-up teeth by gifting your puppy a new toothbrush! <\/span>Brushing your dog\u2019s teeth<\/span><\/a> is important and can prevent a laundry list of different dental diseases.
