“Max”

Client’s Name: Jim & Kim

Dog’s Name: “Max” or “Maximus Aurelius the Gladiator Dog / Max”

City: Austin, TX 78704

Breed: Rescued “Shlaberpit” = mutt

Likes: Jump, chew, claw, fetch and very touchey. Loves walks and just about anything when he’s got his parents attention.

Pet-Peeves: Absolutely won’t let me balance a milk bone on his nose and hold still. But as an old friend used to say… “Rome wasn’t’ built in a day baby.!”

Favorite Toy: “I think that’s an easy one… the Pink Monkey! Monkey is a shadow of his former self. He has been almost full gutted and de-limbed. The only appendage remaining is his tail and it’s days are numbered.

Interesting thing is Max practicing the violent shaking of Pink Monkey gave him the skill to kill a opossum in the back yard at the rare age of 3.5 months!”

Favorite Treat: Chicken Jerkey from Costco.

Favorite Walk: Loves Town Lake, we can’t wait to get him trained so it’s a more leisurely experience for us.

Best Trick: Ambidextrous hand shake

Arrival Story: Traveling between the tile store and Home Depot on a Sunday, we decided to do a fly-by at Austin Pets Alive off S Lamar. Saw Max in a litter of 8 pups. Crawled inside the pen, sat down with him and the rest is history. The old “puppy dog close” still works and always will.

Why Training / Sit Means Sit: “Maxium aka; “”The Lion King””, can be very distracted and kind of wild. My gut was he would be very responsive to this style of training. He needs to re-focus and get distracted or he’s just unmanageable.

The results were almost immediate. He’s responding to our commands and far more manageable in less than a week. I took him to Joe’s Coffee on S Congress. Dogs everywhere. Last week he was a crazy idiot. I had to leave and walk him to stop the pulling and incessant barking. This morning he was very manageable with the same Doberman and Rhodesian Ridge back two tables away. ”

Motto: “Sweet Puppy… because he is!”
