While the holidays are a wonderful time for humans they can be dangerous for our pets. Make sure to look out for these common holiday hazards this Christmas season.<\/p>\n

Poisonous plants.<\/h2>\n

Many common plants used in holiday planning<\/a> can be extremely toxic to dogs. Try to steer clear of these plants when decorating your home this year. Poinsettias, holly, lilies, and mistletoe are all very harmful to dogs and cats. Live Christmas tree and tree watering systems can especially harm our pups. Evergreen and Japanese Yew Pines can cause many health issues. If decorating with these plants, try to place them in a high place or barricade them with a pet-proof gate.<\/p>\n

Terrible Tree Trimmings<\/h2>\n

When trimming the tree this holiday season,\u00a0 keep an eye on your furry friends. Small ornaments can be easily ingested and lead to digestive issues.\u00a0 Keep any salt-dough or play-dough ornaments away from your pets. While these ornaments might seem pet-safe, the high salt content in these products can lead to sodium poisoning.<\/p>\n

Dangerous Decorations<\/h2>\n

Many common holiday decorations contain chemicals and ingredients harmful to our furry friends. For example, many snow globes contain high amounts of anti-freeze, which is very toxic to animals. Fido can come into contact with this poisonous liquid if your snowglobe breaks or is not put into a secure place. Place your snowglobes in a secure place to prevent accidents.<\/p>\n

If you’re trying to give your house a festive scent, rethink using potpourri or essential oils<\/a>. Potpourri and many essential oils are extremely toxic to our four-legged friends. Candles and oil warmers can also be dangerous for our puppies. Never leave heated products, like candles or wax warmers, unattended.
