Halloween and all the festivities that come with it can be so much fun! However, it may not be as much fun for your dog. The unfamiliar sights, sounds, and smells may stress your pup out. And, having strangers dressed up in scary costumes constantly knocking on your door may induce some stress as well. So, read below to learn how to prep your pal for Halloween.<\/p>\n

Indoors<\/h2>\n

Try to keep your pal inside as much as you can. Keep your companion on a leash if you need to go on a walk or go out for a potty break. Also, make sure your furry friend is wearing accurate ID tags. Even if your pal is normally well-behaved, strangers, costumes, and noises can cause stress. Additionally, try to keep your pal away from the front door to minimize their chances of running out. Not only will this help keep your companion comfortable, but it will help any kids that are not comfortable around dogs.<\/p>\n

Safe Space<\/h2>\n

You can also keep your pal in a separate area or room away from your front door. This space can be an already favorite spot in your home. His special spot will ensure that your companion is comfortable and will help keep him calm. You can add treats or a favorite chew toy. Chewing will relieve stress and keep your furry friend occupied while the unfamiliar festivities occur.<\/p>\n

Also, this safe space<\/a> should avoid any candy that can make your companion sick. Stay vigilant and keep all candy away from your four-legged friend. Or, you can have someone else in the home do the same. This way, your dog will be used to the increased noise level, and his stress levels won’t be so high.<\/p>\n

While trick-or-treating is taking place, pay attention to your companion’s behavior and body language<\/a>. If your pal seems stressed or overstimulated, you may want to bring him to that safe space you created. Additionally, if your pal feels threatened by these strangers at your house, they are more likely to act out. So, watch out for warning signs such as trembling, tail between the legs, or body tension. You know your pal and their normal behavior. So, make sure to pay attention if something is wrong.<\/p>\n
