It’s that time of the year for cozy sweaters, changing leaves, pumpkin spice, and everything nice! However, the changing season comes with some dangers to be aware of.<\/p>\n

As we lose daylight it is common for our pals to get their daily walks after the sun has set. So, it is important to stay aware and monitor your pup to ensure that they haven’t found any potentially dangerous late-night snacks. Additionally, be sure to stay visible to other people and cars. You may want to get your companion a reflective collar<\/a> and carry a flashlight too.<\/p>\n

Exercise<\/h2>\n

Again, with less daylight and cooler temperatures, you may find yourself spending more time inside. However, exercise<\/a> is still required for your furry friend. Also, monitor your companion’s food intake and weight. You may need to reduce the amount of food you give your pal if they are being less active. This will prevent Fido from gaining weight over the winter months.<\/p>\n

Fleas<\/h2>\n

It is a common misconception that fleas die off as the weather cools down. However, fall is the peak season for these pests. So, ensure that you are keeping up with flea prevention year-round.<\/p>\n

Leaf Piles<\/h2>\n

Though we love frolicking in the leaves, piles of leaves can conceal dangers. This includes sharp objects, molds, fungi, and poison ivy. Cool, damp leaf piles create an ideal environment for mold and mushrooms to grow. Ingesting these dangers could lead to gastrointestinal upset for your companion. This doesn’t mean that leaves are off-limits! Instead, take some time each day to check your yard for mushrooms and other dangers (such as fallen apples or apricots) and then remove them.<\/p>\n

Candy<\/h2>\n

Though we know to keep our four-legged friends away from chocolate and other candies, it is important to stay vigilant this time of year. With Halloween approaching, you likely have more candy around the house. So, keep it out of reach from your furry friends. Also, be aware of fallen pieces of candy on the floor and even wrappers that your dog may ingest.<\/p>\n

Holiday Feasts<\/h2>\n

With family and friends gathering for amazing food, be sure to keep Fido safe. For example, don’t feed your companion onions, grapes, raisins, nuts, turkey skin, dark meat, ham, and gravy. Although their adorable begging faces are hard to resist, stay strong and avoid a trip to the vet!<\/p>\n
