As pet parents, we are all guilty of sharing food with our pups at one point or another. And sometimes giving your pooch human food isn’t so bad. There are fruits and veggies out there that can actually be excellent healthy snacks for Fido. But what about nuts? Are nuts dangerous for dogs? Let’s find out!

There are some nuts out there that are safe for canine consumptions (preferably unsalted). Nuts like peanuts, almonds, and cashews are okay for your furry friend to munch on – but in moderation. There is high-fat content in nuts, so if given to your dog in large amounts, it can lead to nasty digestive issues such as vomiting or diarrhea.

Not all nuts are safe for you canine, however. Macadamia nuts and black walnuts especially should never be brought in contact with your canine companion. Macadamia nuts are extremely rich in fat and can cause Fido pancreatitis as well as possible neurological issues. Black walnuts contain a toxin called juglone that can lead to gastric intestinal problems, and in severe cases, seizes and neurological issues.
