A beautiful and sweet pup, Kody has made great strides in his training with us. To better understand just how far he’s come, let’s take a closer look at the skills he’s mastering.

Place

When Kody first began working on place, he struggled with the command. He wasn’t grasping the concept. After a few more sessions, he began going to place but couldn’t quite master the skill of holding place. Today he has mastered the art of going to place on command but still has some work to do on staying in place for extended periods of time. This is the progress we love to see!

Heel

Kody’s excitement and enthusiasm made it difficult for him initially to respond to the heel command. He would begin walking alongside the trainer but inevitably dart ahead when presented with distraction. After a few more lessons, he began to improve but was still ready to move a bit quicker than his trainer’s pace. More recently he is mastering the heel command, even when faced with minor distractions. The final step in the process will be helping Kody learn to heel even when distracted by other dogs. He’s almost there!

Threshold

Initially Kody had the tendency to want to bolt out every door when presented with the opportunity. He needed to master the art of waiting at doors until released. With each lesson, be began doing better but still had a tendency to want to bolt. A slip lead was required to correct the behavior. Recently we have seen a vast improvement. Kody is doing much better with doors and thresholds.

These are just a few examples of the skills Kody is working to master. We are all very proud of the progress he’s made and look forward to seeing him continue to learn and grow.
