Dogs that are scared of loud noises are often very uneasy during stormy weather. If your pup is one to pace around the house, bark or hide, do not overreact or try to correct the behavior. This will only add to their anxiety. Instead try to engage or distract them with their favorite toy or activity.<\/p>\n

If your pup has a favorite toy or game, this is the perfect time to distract them with their favorite activities. You might even find that it calms your nerves during a storm. By distracting your pup and introducing some fun, you will gradually help them associate fun activities with stormy weather rather than fear.<\/p>\n

Security <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Instead of playing, your dog might simply want a safe space to retire during stormy weather. Be sure to have your pup\u2019s kennel readily available should they choose to seek solitude. It\u2019s also a good idea to be prepared with a thick blanket or comforter to throw over the top of the crate to reduce noise. Gone at work during the day? If your pup is fearful of storms and there\u2019s one in the forecast, be sure to drape their kennel with a blanket before heading out for the day.<\/p>\n

There you have it, the key is being prepared to comfort your dog. Do your best to distract them but also understand that they might simply need some space.<\/p>\n
