As pet owners we accept a lot of responsibility, one such responsibility is cleaning up after our fur babies. From picking up the yard where they relieve themselves to regularly vacuuming excess dog hair, it’s all part of the job of being a dog parent. Depending on how much your dog sheds and what messes they typically leave in their wake, you may find yourself fighting a losing battle when it comes to cleaning up after your pet.

At Sit Means Sit South Denver, we’re proud to offer dog training from Morrison to Lakewood! We consider it our job to help make our clients’ lives easier. In the spirit of doing so, we’re devoting today’s post to cleaning tips designed to help you stay on top of things around your house.

Wash Bedding Regularly

It’s easy to remember to wash our sheets and bedding regularly but we’re not always great about remembering to wash our pets’ bedding. Make it a point to wash their bedding as often as you wash your own. If your pet sleeps with you, it’s important to wash your bedding weekly. This ensures the health of both you and your pet!

Regular Grooming

It might seem like a no-brainer, but we like to remind our Morrison dog training clients that giving pets regular baths keeps them healthy and reduces allergens in the home. If your dog has long hair and requires professional grooming, stick to a schedule. This helps to keep your pup’s coat healthy and your home clean.

Clean Your Dog’s Things

This includes toys and their collar! When you remove your pet’s collar, you probably find a lot of hair buildup. Be sure to remove all excess hair and clean their collar every time you groom them. Putting on a dirty collar after a bath is like putting on dirty clothes after a shower. This extra step will help to keep your dog smelling fresh longer! Regularly cleaning their toys as well can help reduce odors and remove excess dirt and grime from your home.

Removing Excess Hair

It’s important to clean the surfaces with which your dog comes into contact. If you allow them on the furniture, be sure to vacuum your upholstery when you’re vacuuming the house. If you find it tedious to vacuum your furniture, consider using a damp rubber glove! Simply place the rubber glove on your had, get it wet and whip down the areas with dog hair. It will roll into a ball and be easy to remove in large clumps.

There you have it! By following these simple tips, you can stay on top of the excess grime your four-legged friend brings into the house!

Schedule Your Free Morrison Dog Training Consultation Today!

If you are ready to learn how we can help you raise a happy, confident and obedient pup, we encourage you to schedule your free, no-obligation consultation today!
