This is a special time of year; a time to gather with family and friends, little ones and fur babies to give thanks. Here at Sit Means Sit South Denver, we always like to take this opportunity to reflect on the past year and to give thanks for everyone in the extended Sit Means Sit family. From the families and pups we have the pleasure of serving, to our team of expert Denver dog trainers; we couldn’t do what we do without each and every one of you!

Take Time Out Together

As you take time out to spend with those you hold dear, we hope you will give a little extra thought to the love and companionship your little fur babies bring to your life. This is a time of year that can be packed with social obligations, to-do lists and planning. It’s easy for our pups to take a backseat. Don’t allow this to happen this year, instead make a concerted effort to connect with your dog just as you do throughout the year. Though we know the love of your pup is reason enough, here are a few more motivators for prioritizing your relationship with your best friend this holiday season.

Stress Relief

With all the hustle and bustle of the holidays, there is no shortage of stress. However, taking time to play with and simply snuggle your fur baby can do wonders for your stress level. In fact, it’s scientifically proven that connecting with your pet can even lower your blood pressure. When you cuddle with your pet, or even look into their eyes, your body releases a hormone known as oxytocin. Oxytocin is associated with maternal bonding and trust and has been proven to lower blood pressure. [1] So why not put down the phone and the shopping list, at least once a day, for some QT with your favorite pup?

Exercise

Exercise is yet another important activity that is often forgotten during the holidays. Physical activity is not only important to your metabolic health, but it also helps to naturally reduce stress. Just as you need to make time to exercise during the holiday season, so too does your pet. Make it a point to take regular walks, visit the dog park or through a ball around. Your pup will very much appreciate it! Even as the winter weather sets in, be sure to make this a priority. Looking for ideas for staying active with your pup in the winter? Don’t miss our post on that very topic!

Keep Up Your Denver Dog Training Skills

If you have spent much of the year working with your favorite Denver dog trainers, right here at Sit Means Sit, we hate to see you lose momentum over the holidays! Make sure to schedule time, several times a week, to work with your dog. Even if you must divert from your typical schedule, make it a point to practice your Denver dog training skills. When all is said and done, and the holidays have passed, your pup will thank you for it!

Happy Thanksgiving from Your Favorite Denver Dog Trainers!

We hope these tips will help to make your Thanksgiving, and the rest of the holiday season, a little brighter. From our family to yours, we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!

We love to hear from you!
