Starting a Routine with Your Dog

Having a routine with your companion will help your pal feel safe and secure. Additionally, a routine will ensure that your pal’s basic needs are met. So, read below for tips on starting a routine with your dog!

Meals

Having set meal times will prevent overfeeding and underfeeding. Additionally, it also helps your pal have regular bowel movements. Puppies need about 3 small meals a day and adult pups are satisfied with one or two larger meals. How much your pal needs to eat depends on their life stage, weight, and activity level. Also, planning your pup’s meal times around your own will help to create a routine as well.

Potty Breaks

You should take your furry friend out for a potty break in the morning, after meals, and before bed for starters. Taking your pal out at set times will help your pal learn to hold it until potty time. However, if you have a puppy, they will need potty breaks every 2-4 hours. Sticking to a schedule will minimize accidents in the house. Then, the interval between bathroom time can increase as your pal matures.

Playtime

Play and exercise are important to provide mental stimulation, energy release, and bonding. The level of activity your pal needs depends on your companion’s breed, age, and overall health. For puppies, playtime should be short, sweet, and gentle. As your pal grows, more intense exercise is appropriate and they should have at least an hour a day for fun!

Sleep and Bedtime

Puppies need 18-20 hours of sleep a day whereas adults need 12-14 hours a day. Also, their sleep should occur when you sleep and while you are busy during the day. This will ensure a well rested, happy, and healthy companion!

Establishing a routine lead to a happy, well-adjusted pup. There is no correct routine or time frame to follow. If you stick to the same one daily, it will create enormous benefits for your family!
