Taking your dog on a hike can be exciting for you both, but you may face many potential obstacles. It can be challenging to find a dog-friendly trail that meets your needs.

There are several trails in Milwaukee, and we have compiled a list of our favorites. Bonus: these trails are all perfect for taking your furry friend along.

Oak Leaf River Trail

Level: Easy

Length: 15.4 miles

Estimated Time: 6 hours and 22 minutes

This trail is out and back, with several fantastic sights along the way. There is a lake, and the course is used for hiking, walking, running, fishing, and biking. The recommended season for this trail is from April to October. Dogs are allowed on this trail but must be leashed.

Hoyt Park Trail

Level: Easy

Length: 3.2 miles

Estimated Time: 1 hour and 20 minutes

This trail is a loop with an elevation gain of 68 feet. The course is best used from March until October but is also beautiful in the snow. People can expect to see a river and other stunning views on the walk. Dogs can tag along on the trail but must be on a leash.

Greenfield Park Trail

Level: Easy

Length: 1.2 miles

Estimated Time: 31 minutes

This trail is excellent for a quick, leisure walk as it only takes around 30 minutes. The path is perfect for hiking, walking, bird watching, and road biking and features a gorgeous lake. The trail is excellent for all skill levels and our leashed furry friends.

Milwaukee River Trail

Level: Easy

Length: 7.8 miles

Estimated Time: 3 hours and 18 minutes

If you are looking for a trail for all skills levels, the Milwaukee River Trail is perfect. The track is an out and back that is wonderful for walking, running, nature trips, and bird watching. If you leash your furry friend, they can tag along on the trip.

Hank Aaron State Trail

Level: Easy

Length: 6.7 miles

Estimated Time: 2 hours and 51 minutes

The Hank Aaron State Trail has an elevation gain of around 229 feet and is a point-to-point trail. It is paved and is excellent for cross country skiing, snowshoeing, walking, and biking. The course is open all year round and is perfect for our leashed canines.
