Dog Friendly Fruits & Vegetables

The Usual

We have all seen the dog food advertisements that are “different” than all the other brands. They claim to have “real food” and offer a vast array of nutritional benefits, but in reality there probably isn’t one product that fits all needs. A wide variety of dog friendly foods might be the best option, therefore you need to think outside the box to help create a well rounded diet for your furry friend.

Something Different

Fruits and vegetables can provide a simple answer to get your pup some important nutrients, potentially tastier and cheaper too. Vitamins and minerals offer numerous benefits to your dog’s overall health, including their important immune system. A lot of processed dog snacks and food can be higher in calories – yes those are important to your doggo too – so fruits and vegetables can be a healthier option. When you buy fresh foods you can rest easy knowing the ingredients your dog’s getting are quality ones. It also makes it a little easier to control portion sizes and not catch the vets’ attention when your dog gets on the scale.

There’s an Exception

Keep in mind, there are some fruits and vegetables that are harmful to your dog. One common thing to avoid is feeding them acidic plants, which contain allium and is poisonous to most pets. Therefore things to avoid include onions, leaks, chives, mushrooms, etc. Another important thing to remember is that changing your dog’s diet should be taken seriously. Be sure to watch your furry friend to make sure they don’t get sick or act unusual, also make sure to run it by your vet too!
