Frosted Pumpkin Treats

With pumpkin flavoring being added to everything, why not add it to your dog treats so they can give it a try. This is a simple recipe from Sugar Spun Run can be fun even after the pumpkin season has passed.

Ingredients – Cookies

  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup creamy natural peanut butter (Make sure it is Xylitol free)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup oats

Ingredients – Frosting

  • 1/2 cup natural peanut butter
  • 2 1/2 tsp whole wheat flour
  • 1 Tbsp water

Instructions – Cookies

  • Preheat oven to 350F
  • Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper
  • Beat together pumpkin, peanut butter, and eggs until combined
  • Gradually add in whole wheat flour, and then oats
  • Transfer dough to floured countertop and dust with additional flour
  • Knead as needed until it forms a cohesive ball
  • Use a rolling pin to roll dough out to 1/4 inch thickness
  • Use a cookie cutter to cut into shapes (try a dog bone cookie cutter)
  • Use a spatula to transfer cookies to baking sheet
  • Bake for 20-24 minutes
  • Allow cookies to cool completely before serving or frosting

Instructions – Frosting

  • In microwave, warm 1/2 cup peanut butter for 15 seconds
  • Add water and stir well
  • Add flour and stir
  • While the frosting is still warm, spread over cooled cookies
  • The frosting will harden a bit as allowed to sit, but can be served to your dog at any time

Dog Donuts

Turn this classic breakfast treat into an exciting delicacy for your pup. This recipe from Sunny Day Family only requires seven simple ingredients that you may already have in your kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 1 Cup Oats
  • 1/3 Cup Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 Cup Peanut Butter
  • 2 Eggs
  • Greek Yogurt & Bacon Bits (for the topping)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375F
  • Spray donut pan with cooking spray
  • In large bowl, combine all ingredients except the two for the topping
  • Use your hands to press the dough into the donut pan, filling each entirely and pressing the dough down firmly
  • Bake for 14 minutes
  • Allow them to cool and remove from the pan
  • Fill one bowl with Greek yogurt and a second bowl with bacon bits
  • Dip each donut into the Greek yogurt, covering the top
  • Sprinkle with bacon bits
  • Place in the freezer for a couple minutes so the yogurt hardens
  • Share with your furry companion!

Spinach, Carrot, and Zucchini Treats

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 carrot, peeled and shredded
  • 1 zucchini, shredded
  • 1 cup baby spinach, chopped

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Using an electric mixer, beat pumpkin puree, peanut butter, and eggs on medium-high for 1-2 minutes
  • Gradually add old fashioned oats and 2 1/2 cups flour at low speed – Add an additional 1/4 cup flour at a time just until the dough is no longer sticky
  • Beat in carrot, zucchini and spinach
  • On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough until it comes together
  • Using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4 inch thickness
  • Using cookie cutters, cut into desired shapes and place on the backing sheet
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until edges are golden brown
  • Let cool completely before serving to your pup
