Why Does My Dog Love Socks?

Why Does My Dog Love Socks?

Do you live with a furry sock thief? For some reason, our companions love to play with our socks when they have plenty of other fun toys around. So, read below to learn some reasons your pal loves socks.

Stimulation

Dogs and puppies especially love to chew. Chewing is a healthy activity that provides fun and stimulation. And, it can even provide anxiety relief. If you have a teething puppy, they will chew on anything and everything. But, for adult dogs, chewing on socks is more like you chewing gum. Additionally, chewing on things keeps their teeth clean and their jaws strong.

Boredom

If your companion doesn’t get enough activity and stimulation, they will become bored. This can lead to overeating or chewing on everything. So, be sure to give your pal the right amount of exercise and go on daily walks.

They Love You

Your furry friend finds comfort in your smell. So, they will take your socks or anything else that smells like you. This is especially true if they have separation anxiety. Fido takes your socks and chews on them to make them feel closer to you and is a sign of affection. So, give your dog lots of love and affection when you can!

Things Are Left Lying Around

Things that are left lying around are within your dog’s reach. So, they can’t determine which items are off-limits. To help your companion learn what they should keep their paws off of, keep socks and other items off the floor and out of reach.

To prevent sock stealing, make sure your pal gets plenty of exercise and attention, has their toys, and is trained to respond to “no” and “give”. Though it seems like an annoying behavior, your pal is showing you love and affection by stealing your belongings.
