At Sit Means Sit-Licking Valley, we are your one-stop dog training service for Newark dog trainers. Not only do we have standard dog training programs (such as new puppy training, socialization, basic obedience training, day train program and the board and train program), but we also handle the messy jobs that many dog training services won’t touch, including aggressive behaviors. Our passion is providing every dog with a happy life that’s built on the loving trust between an owner and their pet.

No matter your dog’s age, breed or mix, size, temperament, or behavioral issues, we’re here to help you both find joy and fulfillment in your relationship.

Experienced Dog Trainers

Some professional dog trainers stick to a very rigid understanding of training programs, but our staff is filled with compassion and understanding for the individual dog and the goals of each family. Dogs struggle with aggression for a variety of reasons. Without the ability to adjust and gain the trust and focus from the dog, owners and some trainers can have great difficulty throughout the process and give up with little to no holding success.

Our staff is looking forward to getting to know you and your pup on a personal level that helps them approach the training process in a way that’s best for your unique situation. Our trainers are dedicated to ensuring the best outcomes and life-lasting results that will enhance living for you and your dog.

A Look At Our Dog Aggression Approach

Some dog owners don’t know that there are dog training options out there for them. Even if your dog is aggressive, we can help! Besides aggression, our professional trainers will tackle specific behavioral challenges and canine behavior issues, including: loose-leash/off-leash walking, excessive barking, separation anxiety, food aggression, jumping, and destructive behaviors, our programs are designed to facilitate a positive transformation that will allow your dog to find their best life as a well-behaved family member.

It’s not common for aggressive dogs to be beyond help. We find nearly every dog that comes our way has achieved the goals they set out to embark. Our professional trainers have the expertise, patience and experience to make positive changes along the way. Here is an example of what your dog’s journey might look like.

1st Day

We start at our shop and match your dog’s pace/energy level; We have more control at the shop versus distracting environments and practice fundamentals. The first day is full of fun and easy exercises that help build your dog’s confidence, learn how to focus, and pay attention to directions and commands.

At Sit Means Sit – Licking Valley, your dog will be treated like one of our own. We are in the business of taking pets who are struggling and giving them a second chance. Our trainers help lead them into controlling their impulses and enjoying the pure praise that comes with that obedience. Our trainers also take the time to coach and teach the family the skills needed to have the most confidence and success along the way.

Good News!!!! Many times, we find that what seems to be severe aggression, can simply be underlying insecurities and anxiety that can be overcome by confidence building and coaching along the way. You’ll likely see a difference after the first day.

2nd Day

Depending on how your dog’s behavioral issues progressed on the first day, we begin to enhance the distractions and introduce your dog to more challenging exercises that push little by little into another milestone of achievement. We also introduce more physical touch, more eye contact and build on each challenge. Some traditional trainers may be intimidated when dogs show signs of aggression, and the dog can pick up on that energy. Our trainers have the confidence, the knowledge and unique approach to ensure we can gain the trust and help diminish fear and anxiety while unleashing freedom for your dog and your family.

We pair the obedience and confidence your dog has already learned on the 1st day, and apply that out in the real world with fun and exciting field trips to retail, outdoor, and other unique places that will allow your dog to explore and engage in real life scenarios. We help your dog learn to focus around all of these enticing smells, sights and sounds, and unfamiliar people and dogs. All while in controlled and safe environments. Along the way, we praise, reward and encourage your dog with positive reinforcement and more fun exercises and interactions with elevated distractions and experiences every step of the way. This helps them feel confident and encouraged in their training and in control no matter where you go together. We have the tools and the techniques that will help you and your dog overcome some of the most challenging behaviors with confidence and ease.

Final day of training

In addition to proofing behaviors on the last day of training, we also raise the bar and focus on more personalized goals that you may have. Because at this point, your dog has the focus and control he needs to overcome most any objection or challenge he experiences with just a little bit of guidance. Let us know if there is anything we need to work on, like counter surfing, eating clothes, or drinking out of the toilet. Afraid of the trash can or the delivery guy? We can help with that too! Our system allows you and your dog to feel confident and encouraged and more importantly proud!
