If you have a dog who struggles with aggression, it can be overwhelming and stressful to try and figure out where to start or what to do. It could be that your dog’s aggressive tendencies are limiting your ability to take them out of the house or have people over. If you’re in this boat, don’t worry. We are able to help your dog through means such as dog obedience training with trainers who care about your dog as an individual and have compassion for the situation. At Sit Means Sit in Tom’s River, we are here to help.

Experienced Dog Trainers

At Sit Means Sit, our trainers approach aggressive behavior with training techniques that are backed by decades of success. It’s easy to unintentionally get a dog trained to show aggression (barking at the mailman, growling at guests, etc…) because the attention they receive from such behaviors encourages them to continue. Our trainers encourage positive behaviors while breaking down that need for validation through aggression. When our team is done with your furry friend, not only will they have basic commands down, they’ll be transformed into a happy, calm, confident dog.

We use training methods steeped in positive reinforcement to help your dog to adjust their behavior. Our Aggression Boot Camp trains your dog in the following areas:

  • Stop barking
  • Behavior issues
  • Public settings
  • When your dogs destroy things
  • Fighting off bad habits like aggression, jumping, and barking
  • Separation anxiety
  • Leash skills

No pet parent should have to fight with their dog’s behavior every day. It should be that you and your dog both find joy and relaxation in your relationship. It should be fulfilling and beneficial on both ends. You can trust us to help you find that relationship. Facilitating deep bonds between pets and their owners is one of the reasons we do what we do. Positive Reinforcement Dog Training for Aggressive Dogs

If you’re seeking dog trainers who can handle aggressive behaviors, we’re the best option for you. We’re able to get through to dogs who struggle with those deep issues like separation anxiety, reactivity, and aggression. Our training sessions create safe spaces where your dog can learn obedience and behavior modification that will ultimately give them greater freedom and more confidence in their daily life. Whatever issues you’re struggling with, we’re able to help through our day-train programs, such as Aggression Boot Camp. We encourage you to check out all the options instead of continuing to struggle with a pet that causes you stress.

While you might need more assistance than a five-day program can provide, this is a great starting point for your pet. This program allows your dog time with a professional trainer in a setting where they’re encouraged to learn new, positive things.

We’ve spent a long time helping reactive and aggressive dogs find better lives, which allows us to be confident that our training can help. Here’s a closer look at how each day will progress within this program:

Phase 1

Phase 1 can be challenging. Getting the dog started off on the right foot means doing some difficult things like separating pet and owner. However, don’t worry because our trainers can help your dog work through separation anxiety if it shows up.

The only goal in the first is to get the dog used to the dog trainer. For this reason, this phase is similar to what you’ll experience when you go through private lessons. It’s a small, slow-moving environment that allows your dog to feel comfortable and confident while the trainer asses and plans for the future. There’s no need to rush. Basic obedience and behavior modification can happen after your dog has time to adjust to an entirely new world.

Phase 2

Phase 2 dives into all the hard work. It could be that the leash and muzzle are still present for this phase, but that depends on how well your dog reacted to the instruction in phase 1. Some dogs move more quickly than others, so don’t worry if your pup needs a little more time to settle in.

On top of introducing close contact with your dog, we give them something that they can master easily. Some of those simple things that dogs often learn at a young age, like “heel” or “advanced sit” might have been missed with your dog, and this is a great way for them to feel confident and encouraged in their training.

Phase 3

Phase 3 builds on off-leash skills that will be essential for thriving out in the world. Our trainers work on recall and obedience without a leash to enforce it. Your dog will work on skills that are necessary in public settings, such as ignoring distractions. We bring in other trainers to jog past your pet, and we even place unfamiliar dogs in the distance to allow your dog the chance to choose obedience.

Phase 4

At this stage, we bring the muzzle back in for everyone’s protection because the distractions are taken to a new level. We bring in other dogs and people to mill around and work on their own training. Your dog is still required to focus on their trainer and commands. The goal is to work on keeping your dog calm even though there’s a lot going on.

Phase 5

On this, the last phase, our trainers continue reinforcing basic obedience and other skills. The collar will come off, and assuming everything goes well, your dog will stay obedient, calm, and confident. The control that we teach will be applicable in every setting and will help your dog become their best self.

Whatever training you need (puppy training, socialization, positive reinforcement, or an adopted dog in need of confidence), we’re the one-stop shop for all your dog training needs. We can’t wait to help you discover that a great dog lies within your pet!
