Tips for Making Homemade Dog Toothpaste

One of the worst things is running out of toothpaste for your dog and not being able to run to the store to grab more. However, there are ways to make some at home if you need it in a pinch.

Homemade dog toothpaste typically includes baking soda, water or coconut oil, and a flavor such as mint, cinnamon, chicken broth or peanut butter. Make sure to avoid nutmeg, garlic, and onion; these products can be found in some flavor products.

Dog Toothpaste Recipes

1. Modern Dog DIY Toothpaste

• 1/4 cup coconut oil
• 4 tbsp baking soda
• 1 cube chicken or beef bouillon
• 6-7 mint leaves

Add all ingredients to a blender and pulse until combined. Add a pea-sized amount to their toothbrush and brush away. Shelf life of 2 weeks.

2. Dog Day Homemade Toothpaste

• 1/4 cup coconut oil
• 3 tbsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
• 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Combine ingredients and let sit for one hour before use. Store leftover mixture in an airtight container in the fridge.

3. Organic Authority Homemade Toothpaste

• 6 tbsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 cube beef bouillon
• 1 tsp fresh or dried parsley
• 1 tsp water

Mix ingredients in a bowl and use immediately. Store leftover mixture in the fridge.

4. K9 Homemade Toothpaste

• 1 cup coconut oil
• 1/2 tsp turmeric
• 1/2 kelp (diced or dried)
• 1/8 tsp dried parsley flakes

Combine ingredients and use immediately. Store leftovers in a container in the fridge.

5. Animal Wellness DIY Toothpaste

• 3 tbsp coconut oil
• 1/2 tsp finely minced mint leaves
• 1/4 tsp baking soda

Combine all of the ingredients in a bowl or plastic container. Use the paste immediately and then store leftover mixture covered in the refrigerator.
