Sit Means Sit training has been a God send for my puppies Bella and Blu. I went from wanting to pull my hair out to enjoying every minute with the pups. Everyone at Sit Means Sit is so friendly and always excited to see them. The puppies love going to daycare there and hanging with their friends. I would highly recommend this training to anyone!

I have a German Shepherd with very strong herding instincts. So strong that several years ago, at 18 months old, she jumped out of our truck to herd elk and disappeared for 5 days. This put her at risk of being hunted and killed by mountain lions. I was fearful every time I put her on a leash since she would pull and lunge at the wildlife. Two years ago my brother referred me to Sit Means Sit. The trainers at Sit Means Sit did an excellent job at helping me to control that instinct. Now I can hike and instead of herding the elk and deer, she watches them and listens to me, even without a leash. We continued to use their doggie daycare and overnight stays because they “know” and understand dog behaviors.

Highly recommend, and worth every Penny.

Amazing people and fantastic trainers!

After going to numerous events within ABQ we noticed a select few humans who had dogs with them. We noticed these dogs were highly disciplined and attentive to their owners. We would ask them who trained them and unanimously it was a place called “Sit Means Sit”. We had never heard of this place but after having acquired a pit bull named “Lalo” one year prior we needed some discipline in his life. Lalo is about 80lbs and does not know his own strength and was too hyper and jumped on people almost knocking them to the ground and his stubbornness was unparalleled. Lalo goes with us to the office daily and to all calls and we thought we would look into Sit Means Sit for training so he could be more mannered in his interactions with the public.

We contacted the manager Andrea and she was welcoming from the first moment we met. We set up training for one month in the future. We elected for the maximum 15 day training session which was a leave him there all day and all night boarding setting.

The first and second week we had one, on one, training with a very knowledgeable and friendly trainer to go over what Lalo learned during the week and the results were always amazing. After around 20 days(holiday and weekends) of Lalo being gone we finally went to pick him up and it was like picking up a recruit fresh out of Marine Corps boot camp. Lalo was a new dog and his lessons learned were instilled forever. We went to a refresher one week after graduation and he had not missed a beat. Several weeks after graduation Lalo is still as smart and attentive as ever.

Lalo is a real joy to be around as always but now with no fears of him injuring an unsuspecting elderly person or someone with balancing issues. We highly recommend Sit Means Sit to anyone who wants the best possible training with several different options to choose from.

Sit Means Sit, is the best place to take your dogs to be trained, the staff is always great and helpful! They offer day camp and boarding where they continue to work on their training! Our dog loves being there and is always excited to jump out of the car! They always greet our dog with hugs when he arrives. It’s so nice to know you can leave your dogs with people who care about them as much as you do!

Sit Means Sit has positively improved our dogs happiness and freedom. Not only are they able to play and enjoy life but us as dog lovers are able to take our Malinois with us and they behave appropriately. Thanks to the training and follow up by Andrea our dogs have the life they deserve. We will definitely be referring all family and friends!

We love Sit Means Sit. Our dog has been through their board and train program. We are happy with the results. He regularly enjoys daycare there. And he has been loving the recent addition of the pool. We highly recommend them. The staff are excellent!

Sit Means Sit has been a game changer for our dog, Charlie. Not only have they helped us to train him and become proactive in dealing with his energy and behavior, but the staff is so loving and kind towards our crazy pup. Charlie goes to day care frequently where we’re greeted with a friendly smile and then he gets to play with all of his favorite people and doggie pals all day. I cannot say enough good things about this business and the services that they provide.

I have used Sit Means Sit for both training and boarding. I have three extra large dogs that require an experienced trainer and staff. My dogs always get excited when they know they are going to Sit Means Sit. It is really comforting for me to be able to board them with such excellent staff!

Keira S.

They really know dogs. Josey was a smart dog already (not), and now she’s basically a Rhodes Scholar (also untrue). This is our go-to place.

Jon S.

Absolutely amazing staff. From 6 months ago are dog is a night and day difference. We highly recommend this place.

Conrad Q.

My very active, willful Westies love this place. Both were well trained here and and we now return regularly for doggie day care. The facility is immaculate and the staff couldn’t be more caring and supportive. They are like my extended family and if I have any issues with doggie behavior they are there to help me out.

Jane W.

My dog has enjoyed the training as well as day care and being boarded. She gets very excited when we pull in. She is easy to handle now and very friendly.

I had my doubts that they could help me with my crazy dog- but I was wrong!
They trained me to be in control and helped my dog to work with me. Though not perfect he is more calm and relaxed during walks which makes me happy!

The team is helpful and nonjudgmental which helps when you are feeling helpless. I also now have a safe place to board my dog where I know he will be safe and understood!
Check them out- you won’t be disappointed.

We had a dog who was becoming a bigger handful than we could work with on our own. Their board and train program gave us the dog we knew he was but couldn’t achieve on our own. Their follow up support and the fact they train the owner as much as the dog is a critical part of the equation we were in desperate need of. I would recommend them to anyone who has a dog who is a handful, needs obedience, or just better manners with visitors.

Rocky just completed the 15 day board and train program. We are so glad we decided to complete training despite the expense, it was completely worth it! Rocky turned around from an unruly puppy that would jump up on my young children and play-bite to a well- behaved pup who can stay with us inside the house with no issues. They gave us the tools to continue enforcing good behaviors he learned at home. Thank you

It may take a lot of work and persistence, but this team does a great job working with dogs and owners for a great outcome. Our boxer is very dog reactive, but we’ve made huge progress in the last couple months since doing the board and train followed by group classes.

I took my 1 year old lab for the day train program because she was a little wild and needed help with her excitement around people. She is a lab so she has endless energy but she can now control herself when meeting new people and doesn’t knock you over. We now go once a week for daycare and she starts to cry with excitement as soon as we turn on 2nd street because we are almost there! Amazing place with wonderful people who care about your dog like it is their own!

I adopted a rescue dog that was scared of noises and my husband. She would flinch every time I would go to pet her. I did the training plus and she is a completely different dog. She has confidence and goes to my husband and comes to me for petting her. They have been a God sent.

Sharon T.

I was worried about bringing my GSD anywhere until I brought him here. I can take him hiking off leash now and he’s very well behaved! They’ve also met me at places around town to walk him and work on training.

Kat T.

We knew we needed help when our daughter said that Greta, our mini schnauser must be on meth. After a two week stay with Sit Means Sit with intensive and positive training she sits on quiet command. She came home a calm sweet girl, still playful but on our terms. She cuddles without jumping around. Very responsive to commands. Absolutely love entire staff, always kind and responsive to our questions and requests. Great at training humans as well. Ongoing support is beyond anything imagined. THANK YOU TEAM.

Eileen J.

My dog and I are both so much happier after training with Sit Means Sit. My dog has more confidence going new places, meeting new people, and new dogs. We are doing more things together and loving every minute!

Sue D.

Colt had the best time and loved all of his trainers. This place really turned his behavior around and I can definitely tell a difference in him.

Teddi C.

Absolutely the best!!! Andrea and her staff treat our kiddos like family! With a crew of Old English Sheepdog Rescues, training was absolutely necessary. Our beloved babies were treated like angels, and came home acting like them too! Boarding is amazing, classes are fun and exciting for them, and board and train helps keep them in great shape. I wouldn’t dream of leaving my babies with anyone other than Grandma, Grandpa, and Andrea and her staff!!! ❤️

Sit Means Sit is the BEST! My 2.5 year old Frenchie was having issues greeting people without being crazy and pulling while on leash. I sent her to SMS for a 15 day Board and Train and she literally came back a patient, well trained little girl. She’s no longer frustrating to take walking. I keep up with her training consistently and attend as many group classes as I can with her. She loves going back each week to see all of her friends. Many of my friends, and let’s be honest, even some strangers have commented on how well behaved she is. I’m grateful that the trainers at SMS taught her how to behave when out in public so I can take her more places without having to leave right away because of her crazy behavior. Everyone at SMS is super friendly and they love my baby as much as I do. Thank you! I’m so happy to be part of the SMS family!

Stacielynn M.

The staff at this facility is amazing. After my 15-day training and board, my dog is a completely different dog. She now listens to me and follows my commands. I still have to continually work with her, but the staff has now given me the tools to successfully create a bond and train my dog. If I ever have to go out of town I will definitely take my dog back to board her at sit means sit, because I know she will be well taken care of.

My family and our boy Tucker loves Sit Means Sit Dog Training. We did the day training and it was a great option for our family. Tucker now participants in day care. He is so happy to go see his friends (human and canine). He gets plenty of time to interact and play with his friends. I’m so happy we found SMS.

Doing great work, super friendly.

They really know dogs. Josey was a smart dog already (not), and now she’s basically a Rhodes Scholar (also untrue). This is our go-to place.

One of the best dog training companies out there, they helped us take out dog-reactive dog and turn him into a completely different dog who is amazing.

Can’t say enough about SMS services and especially the staff, there’s a sense of always being in control within the premisses and around the dogs of all shapes and sizes. The services offered ranging from training, daycare to boarding and bathing is money well spent, they do it all and they do it well!!!!!!

The folks at Sit Means Sit are so positive and friendly! They work with you to train your dog, and you won’t believe how quickly you see a change in behavior. My dog was trying to herd traffic, and we couldn’t take him for walks without being pulled into the street after big trucks. He is now so well behaved! The classes are fun, and my dog loves going!

SMS is forthcoming and transparent about their use of e-collars, which are different from shock collars. It’s natural to have reservations about using this tool for training, and it took me time to understand my dog’s responses and working level. If you have a commitment to your animal and want to build a strong bond and level of ongoing trust, you have to understand that YOU are the true the trainee, not your dog. The benefit of lifetime training and teamwork with Kevin is a value that, for me, outweighs the cost. I should post video of his excited response to me removing the collar from its charge and turning it on – to Kevin, the collar means “adventure ahead!” Kevin

Sit Means Sit ABQ has been the best thing that’s ever happened to us as dog owners! We fell in love with a stray puppy, Annie, who has turned into a 90 lb Husky/German Shepherd mix. Without SMS we would not have kept her. The training she had with them made it possible for us to treat her as a family member that all of our friends and especially our grandkids are totally comfortable with. We take her to SMS Daycare during the week where she gets to play with other dogs and come home tired. Everything she learned in training is reinforced. She’s a great off-leash hiking dog-very comfortable with people and other dogs. When we leave town we board her at SMS and we know she isn’t just sitting in a cage all weekend-they come on the weekends and let her play. The SMS staff is amazing-you can tell they truly love dogs—all dogs—and they help you have a well-behaved dog you will love too! Five stars PLUS!

I’m an experienced dog owner, having shown and trained my dogs to championships and AKC titles. However, my new puppy had me seriously doubting my abilities. He’s extremely reactive to new people and dogs, as he LOVES EVERYBODY. He’s very exuberant and friendly, but my left shoulder was taking a beating from all the sudden bolting. At my wits’ end, I contacted Sit Means Sit, and long story short, I signed my boy up for 21 days of train and board. The results were amazing. I had a “new” pup who was finally responding to my commands. It’s been two years, and we’re still working on the reactive behaviors, but the key to any training is consistency and continued work. SMS provides classes in which you continue to use their methods, and are excellent at resolving problem areas. Their method involves a shock collar, but don’t let that worry or scare you. They teach you to use it correctly. My dog needs the stronger signal; some dogs just need a vibration. Andrea and her team of trainers genuinely love all dogs, and they are incredibly patient. I highly recommend Sit Means Sit!

Kimo We adopted our dog from the shelter and he was not socialized to be around other dogs. With the training and support of Sit Means Sit, this was our dog this week. We can’t thank you enough, as he is now a calmer and more responsive dog on the trail on walks and around other dogs.

Nancy W.

Our dog has come a long way from the first day we brought him for training. He is not longer pulling on the leash or barking at other dogs. Sit means sit showed us how to work on the distractions and what our dog needed from us as owners. We are so grateful to the staff and appreciate the day care services and training classes they offer. Thank you!

I have a 4 year old female pit bull named Aluna , who has a history of aggression and sadly been in a few fights. When she had her last fight I knew I had to do something, I looked into Sit means Sit booked a demo and the staff there were so friendly. You could tell they really cared about my dog and the issues going on because of how many questions they asked about her. They didn’t pressure me into buying a package right there I actually waited a month before putting her in the board and train program. I was talking to them about my money concern but they worked with me to make a payment plan just to make sure that I was able to train my dog so I did not have to rehome her or anything. The staff truly care about each and every dog that comes to the facility. Now my fur baby has the best attitude and we work everyday to continue her training, plus we were able to learn where her aggressive comes from.Aluna

I am beyond impressed with the training that my pup received. I was in dire need of help! Poppy, my 3 yr GSD mix was stranger aggressive, a bear to walk, could jump 12 foot fences and barked incessantly. We decided to put her in the 15 day board and train. WORTH EVERY PENNY. She came home a different dog in a good way. We have been able to have strangers (to her) over with no incident. She no longer jumps the fence. I can take her for a walk without being dragged around the block. She doesn’t bark all day. She comes when she is called. AMAZING. We love all the trainers, especially Peter, Brenden and Andrea. We have been keeping up with group classes and some private lessons to fine tune. If you have an aggressive dog, don’t give up on them! I can’t thank (or recommend) Sit Means Sit enough!

Katherine M.

We love these people! Our 3-year-old dog had developed bad habits, and they’ve helped us get those corrected. Our house is much calmer, and quieter! And he loves the classes and is having fun as we go. Thank you, guys!

Stacy B.

Great training and super helpful employees, the personal touches they used with my Luckydog helped him learn. The continuous classes help reinforce his training hes much easier to handle and walks off leash most places we go now.

Douglas D.

Highly recommended. My pup loves them. After the training they send you home with homework and tasks so that the training doesn’t go to waste. Even after the training was completed, the trainers are constantly checking up on him.

This place is amazing! Very well manicured and taken care of. The people have an amazing passion for dogs and our second time there (we’ve been several times since) they already knew the dogs names. Plenty of indoor and outdoor space for the dogs. They also have a funny phrase on the van. Highly recommend!!! Christie was awesome to work with and you can tell she has a great passion for dogs.

Brett C.

Best dog training facility in the city! The trainers are amazing and very professional. They did a great job with my 2 super difficult Bloodhounds! I highly recommend them.

What Sit Means Sit, Means To Me
My dog Zeke was abandoned by the side of a highway and for several weeks people were yelling and shooting at him as he was looking for food.  My mom worked hard to win his trust by putting out food and water and talking kindly to him.  She finally succeeded and he joined her household.  Within a few days, there was a fight between him and her dog, and Zeke hurt the other dog.  Not knowing what triggered the fight, we kept them separated as much as possible but it was clear Zeke wouldn’t be able to stay there.   I was worried about the safety of the cats at my house so I didn’t bring him here right away.  We tried a couple of shelters but they didn’t work out, either.  My vet assured me that one fight does not mean he’s aggressive and suggested I call Sit Means Sit.  I got an appointment that same day; Jori evaluated him and said she thought he would respond well to the training.
Zeke did the 20 day board-and-train program and Jori was right, he did very well.  He now has manners, he knows how to behave and I take him with me everywhere I can.  He no longer chews things up, he doesn’t try to escape the yard and he likes the cats!  He loves going to day care where the staff understand him and he has friends (dogs and people).  We go to group classes on a regular basis and he recently passed his CGC test.  Zeke is able to show all his positive qualities because of Sit Means Sit and their training of him and me!  I give them the credit for the happy ending this dog got.

“On behalf of Trixie, Buddy, and ourselves, we thank you, Sit Means Sit, for the wonderful experiences, challenges, and continued assistance in becoming even better owners for these two wonderful members of our family.”

There are two questions I have always asked about dogs.  The first is, “How do you let your dogs know you love them?”   Research shows that gazing into their eyes, letting them be part of family activities, and just being yourself are but a few ways to show  your love for your dogs.  I can definitively state that among the aforementioned ways, training should be at the top of the list.
We have taken three dogs to Sit Means Sit for the 20-day board and train program.  Each was more successful than the first.   We were blown away by the improvement in each dog.  I took Trixie, a german short-haired pointer, in for training when she was only a pup.  She was a quick learner, and is now a therapy dog with Caring Angels.  It is a very humbling experience to watch Trixie at work when visiting at nursing homes, court procedures, and libraries.  Her entire being is focused on the individuals she is there to visit.
Our third dog, Buddy, a heeler/pit mix, is the most successful story of all.  We found him in an animal shelter.  The staff at the shelter had almost given up hope for Buddy.  He was very antisocial and dog aggressive.  However, our son seen something special in Buddy’s eyes.  He was brought home and introduced to the other family members.  With what we were told about his history, it was a no-brainer that we get him to Sit Means Sit.  After 20 days, Buddy is a very loving, loyal member of our family.  His dog aggression has ceased.  With understanding of Buddy and training of ourselves, we are now able to take Buddy with us to dog social events.
That leads me to the second question, “How do you know your dogs love you?”  Our dogs show excitement to have the transformation which took place during their training.  They are welcome in our home just as another member of the family.  We include Trixie and Buddy in all family activities without the worry of uncontrolled behavior.  Without the training they received at the board and train program, as well as continued group class sessions, this would not have been possible for Buddy.  Both Buddy and Trixie, in their own unique ways, show us every day that the investment made in their training was well worth it.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about the trainers.  They are all extremely knowledgeable, dedicated, kind-hearted, and always available to help our with any issue may arise with our dogs.  I always tell people that I believe the training is more handler training than dog training.  I believe these dogs are a lot smarter than we give them credit for.
So, on behalf of Trixie, Buddy, and ourselves, we thank you, Sit Means Sit, for the wonderful experiences, challenges, and continued assistance in becoming even better owners for these two wonderful members of our family.
Michelle O. and Buddy

Katie (my 8 month old golden retriever) and I entered training right after Labor Day 2018. Katie was trained for 15 days, plus a couple of private lessons, a couple of group lessons, and a trip to our house in. Your staff did an excellent job training her and i appreciate all the time and effort they put forth. Katie did very well until we started traveling to California and other places. We both got off track a bit.

I would just like to thank you and your staff for scheduling Katie and I to have a tune-up session for 3 days. This will get us both back on track. I am very impressed with your staff. They are knowledgeable, competent, and very patient especially with me. I also realize that I have to do my part for the training process to be successful. Your program was highly recommended to me, and I can vouch for that and will recommend it to others.

Thanks again for your caring staff!

Ron G. and Katie

Magic and I just couldn’t be any more happy with his training
(boarded 15 days). Friends who know Magic have said “he is a changed
dog”! That he is. He was a “go go go boy” who is very settled and in
tune with me now. SIT MEANS SIT is the best event to ever happen to
Magic!!!!

Training with Sit Means Sit was nothing short of a miracle! I’d taken Larka to regular training classes, but those didn’t help with the issues we were having. Besides not having the time needed to train her, I really didn’t think some behaviors would be possible to address with training. When I went in for my initial consultation, I just rattled off all our issues, and hoped they’d be able to help me with some of them. I still remember Christie saying quite confidently “you’ll get everything you want”. And she was right.
The issues I was having with Larka were many. She was too aggressive with other dogs at the dog park, and we’d often have to leave if any shy dogs were around…but only after I could actually manage to catch her! She chased our cats in the home relentlessly. She’d get so wound up in play with people that she’d jump and nip, often bruising and sometimes drawing blood – at the office, I’d have to warn people not to play with her at all.

Today I’m happily and safely walking Larka every day and taking her to the dog park whenever I like. I can take her into stores and around other dogs with confidence, and I don’t have to worry about my kids walking her. She can be outside in the back yard completely unattended while we’re home for long periods of time. When she has gotten out, we can easily get her back, even without a collar or leash. She is a very spirited dog, and she hasn’t lost that spirit, rather she’s learned how to control her own self, and that’s really wonderful. It’s absolutely changed our relationship, and almost one year later, we’re so happy!
I also love that I can return for training whenever we need it – it’s important to have refreshers now and then. I absolutely highly recommend training with Sit Means Sit!

I am so glad Ozzy went through this program. He is so well behaved now. The staff are absolutely amazing and took such wonderful care of my boy while he was there. They sent pictures and updates a long the way which made being away from my dog much easier to bare. Ozzy is the star everywhere we go! Thank you Sit Means Sit!
