Creating a Room for Dogs in Your Home

Creating a Room in Your Home for Your Dog

As your loyal friend and companion, your doggo deserves a space to call their own. We know space can be tight in many homes, so we have all the best tips to decorate and organize your pet’s room! Learn how to give your dog the space of their dreams.

Decide Where to Make Their Room

For starters, you need to pick where your pup will reside! Deciding where your dog’s designated spot should be can be tricky, but there are plenty of options to maximize the space that is available in your home. One of our favorite options is combining your laundry room and your pet room. Simply add a dog bed and toys and your dog will be all set! You could also add a dog kennel and storage bins to your mudroom. This will keep most of the mess in your house concentrated in that room. Other great options are a spare bedroom or the garage.

Choose a Color Scheme

Dogs may not be able to see the same colors as us, but they can see some colors! If you want a room that will pop from your dog’s perspective, try a blue or yellow color scheme. If blue and yellow clash with the rest of your home, you can’t go wrong with some neutral shades! You can always try out some fun different colors and swap out accessories if necessary.

Labels are Key

Dogs can get real messy, so label toys, treats, meds, and anything else in your doggie room that should be kept separate from their living space. This will help you and your pup stay extra organized! If you’re not one for labels, you can use clear jars so you know what is in each container. Getting a medicine mixed up with your dog treats wouldn’t be good for your furry friend, so just make sure you know what’s in each container. Keep treats up high so eager paws can’t reach them!

Accessorize

The key to any doggie space is the cute but functional accessories! Bring your dog’s bed or crate into their space so they know that it’s theirs. If they need stairs, bring these, too. First and foremost, make sure the furniture you place in their puppy palace is functional. After that, get creative! To really do it up, put up a sign with their name or some pictures of them. This is more for your benefit than your pup’s, but it will add a lot to their space!

When you’re finished with your dog’s space, they’ll feel extra loved and pampered. Plus, it’ll give them some territory of their own, which is very important for dogs. Get creative and have fun!
