Arrival Story: “Jason and Nicole had been looking for the “right” dog for their lifestyle since they moved from Illinois to Austin in May 2010. They had visited shelters often and never found the “right” one. Nicole went to Town Lake one day after work to look at dogs that she had seen online. In person, she found they were not what she wanted. Walking past the last set of kennels, she spotted Lucy (then named Buttercup). Lucy has these yellowish-orange eyes that catch your eye. She stopped and visited with her for a while and went to talk to the adoption people at the shelter about her. Sadly they had no background on her-only that she came in as a stray a couple weeks before. Nicole went home and waited for Jason to get home from work. She begged him to go back to the shelter that night before they closed to go see Lucy and he agreed. They took Lucy out to play and walk for a while and put her back. They went home to talk about it. Jason went to work the next day and when he got home that night, they decided to go back to the shelter to play with Lucy again. After they spent a lot of time with her, they decided she was the right dog for them and went to fill out adoption forms. They took her home that night…after a brief shopping trip to Pet-Smart. Lucy has now been with her new family for one month!”

Why Training / Sit Means Sit: “Lucy is very smart but does not have any training. We have gotten her to sit before she gets a treat or before she gets her collar/leash on to go outside, but that’s it. She has trouble walking on a leash, jumping, chewing, and biting. We want to feel more comfortable having her around other dogs and people. Sit Means Sit received great reviews online and after meeting Troy, we decided this would be the best option for Lucy. Troy and Shelly love dogs and know firsthand how the program works.”

Motto: “Goose! Lucy’s nickname is Lucy-Goosie because she is a big ball of energy and so lovable. She has these moments of acting like a nut and all you can do is laugh at her!”
