group of dogs in obedience class in austinAbout Group Dog Training Class

Clients who have completed our day camp or private training can attend our dog training group classes.

These classes are meant to continue your dog’s journey. You will be coached through new and old techniques, meet like-minded dog lovers and advance your skills. By coming to group class you will be refining and reinforcing all the new skills you’ve taught your dogs in their foundational programs.

Group classes are generally held on weekday evenings at 6:00 PM and on Saturdays. We have three different group types — Transitional and Feisty Fido (which take place at our facility) and Advanced classes, which take place at local parks when weather and daylight permits.

Please bring your dog’s place cot, SMS collar and treats to group class.

Use the schedulers below to get started. We look forward to seeing you in class!

Benefits of Group Dog Training Classes

After dog private lessons or day camp programs, you may wonder what’s next. You can invest in group training sessions to continue learning in environments that allow your puppy to:

  • Socialize: Have your dog practice interacting with other pets and people in a supervised group setting.
  • Continue training: Ask questions, implement commands and learn from other pet owners.
  • Practice obedience: Practice the skills you’ve learned to sustain and reward your dog’s good behavior.
  • Help protect your dog: Teach your dog to tune out distractions, listen and follow your instructions.
  • Improve your communication: Enhance the shared understanding between you and your dog.
  • Strengthen the bond with your dog: Form a stronger connection and make memories together.

Our Dog Group Training Classes

Signing up for our group classes is easy and convenient with these guidelines:

  • Follow the class limits: Please only book three classes at a time. If you are booked for more than three upcoming classes, we will have to cancel your spots past your three soonest reservations. This is so that all our clients have the opportunity to attend class in a reasonable time frame. We thank you for your understanding.
  • Prepare up to three months in advance: The online scheduler will only show classes with availability in the next 90 days.

Advancing Through Class

At Sit Means Sit, we take training seriously. We want to ensure you maintain the training you’ve completed with us and that you continue to do so at home.

To that end, we conduct regular assessments.  These tests are held during the third week of each month.  Our trainers will observe your ability to do certain techniques during the tests. Based on the results of these assessments, you may move on to more advanced classes or continue to be coached at our transitional level. Review and download our testing guidelines.

Regardless of the results, our role is to continue to coach you wherever you are in the journey.

Please check our calendar for all class times and dates and upcoming advanced testing dates.

Our group dog training classes are tailored to your specific needs, considering factors like your dog’s age, temperament, and your training goals. Existing clients can purchase a single class for $40 per session or join the Good Dog Club for unlimited classes at $75, with the first month free! You can find more information on our pricing page.

Yes, group dog training offers a great way to retain skills and socialize with others.

Almost any dog meeting prerequisite requirements could be a good fit for group classes. For example, slightly shy dogs could benefit from interacting with others during class time, and dogs that get excited around other dogs could benefit from practicing self-control.

At Sit Means Sit Austin, we require all dogs to start at the same level, which offers an opportunity to refresh skills and ensure you haven’t missed any critical information before moving forward.

Every dog starts off in Transitional group class (unless you have an aggressive dog). Once they are ready they will go through level testing. Based on those results, your trainer will inform you whether you need to continue training in Transitional or can move into the Advanced group.

There is a strict cancellation policy of four hours before the group class. We want to make sure that nobody misses an opportunity to come because someone else cannot make it for some reason and didn’t cancel. There will be a $25 no-show fee, or that class will be deducted from your total allotment of group classes.

Please call our office at (737) 348-0414 for this information.

In most cases, no. Group classes are included as part of your program because they are beneficial to your overall success. You are not obligated to attend, but any group classes not completed before the expiration date will be forfeited.

If there is an unexpected circumstance, such as moving out of state for a new job, please reach out to our office and we will work with you to make the best use of classes remaining or potentially seeing about transferring the remaining group to a new Sit Means Sit location.

It’s a possibility! Every Sit Means Sit location makes their own rules about transferring group, and if they even offer group classes in the first place. Please give our office a call and we can help look into the Sit Means Sit nearest your new home and will find out if group classes will transfer and what limitations there may be.

Unfortunately, group classes can not be paused. We include six months to one year of time to use the group classes with the expectation that there will be periods of time that you can not attend due to illness, travel, or life change.

With group classes being offered several times per week, even if you have to take time off here and there, you should still have plenty of opportunities to use your group classes around other events in your life.

We specialize in training for aggressive and reactive dogs and have a group class specifically designed to help with that problem area! Once you’ve completed the foundational part of training and learned how to manage your reactive pup, our Feisty Fido group class will provide a safe outlet for you to practice having positive interactions between your dog and others who are working towards the same goals.

Dogs in Feisty Fido class are always muzzled for everyone’s safety and class attendance is limited to keep the class completely under control.

In most cases we will hold class unless the weather has become dangerous. We all know Texas weather is unpredictable and changes very quickly, so we will typically wait as long as possible before making the decision to cancel a class. We do hold classes in the heat, as well as in the rain.

Please bring appropriate necessities, such as water for you and your dog when it’s hot and towels to wipe muddy paws before re-entering the car when it’s rainy. If a class is canceled, we will notify all clients via email and/or text, so please check your devices before leaving for group class if the weather looks iffy.

Snagging a spot in a popular class can take some planning ahead. The scheduling system will only show classes taking place in the next 14 days – including today – but space is limited. Our best advice is to figure out which group class time works for you and to try to sign up shortly after it becomes bookable (basically 12 to 13 days before the class).

Most classes don’t become fully booked until about three to five days before they begin, so there is some wiggle room, but if you’ve been struggling to find open classes, planning ahead will most certainly help. You are also welcome to call our office if you need additional assistance.

It depends on how fast you can test out of transitional! See above for our testing dates and requirements.
