I took Rascal, my 11-month old Mini Dachshund, to dog training classes, but they weren’t enough.  His attention would wander or fix on objects when he was outside, and he would come when called–sometimes.  He also had other issues–afraid of the vacuum cleaner and lawn mowers and thinking anything in the house was his chew toy, including wires.  The training classes at another facility helped, but he was still going outside and eating the grass and picking up other objects in the grass–like mulch.  My husband and I decided to try once more to change some of these behaviors.  Someone at our veterinary clinic mentioned Sit Means Sit and I looked into them.  We took Rascal to be evaluated and was told after a few lessons (2 private and 4 all-day) his behavior could be changed for the better.  I was skeptical, but hopeful, and we decided to try it.  We were amazed after the first lesson how much better Rascal was behaving.  His attention was focused on us more and even outside behavior was much better.  We worked with him every day in between classes, and each class showed improvement over the last session.   Rascal is listening much better, he’s walking down the steps (which he wasn’t doing before the classes), and the best improvement is him dropping something if he starts chewing on the wrong thing.  If it wasn’t for Sit Means Sit we wouldn’t have been able to solve his problems.  And he loves his trainers, so he’s more friendly with everyone.

Thank you for doing such a great job with Rascal!

We adopted Brady from the ARL in November 2015 and quickly realized her aggression towards other dogs was going to be an issue and we had no idea how to break her of it. Cue Lisa to the rescue. After the first 2 in-home sessions with Lisa we saw a huge change in Brady’s ability to focus on us and not external distractions. Add in the e-collar and 2 more sessions and she’s like a whole new dog! Now instead of being afraid, we’re actually excited to get her into group classes. What I found most impressive compared to other dog trainers we tried was that Lisa had a long-term plan for Brady, which was never proposed to us before. Training is not just a 1 day thing and Sit Means Sit clearly gets that.

I first met Lisa in 2016 when I started puppy classes with my black Lab, Rocky. Rocky, like most labs, was very friendly and loved people – until he reached about 8 months. I took him to my parents house for Christmas and he reacted very aggressively towards a family member and bit one of them. After that, it got worse and no one could come around me or in the house. It was a very scary and serious issue. So I reached out to Lisa for help knowing already how wonderful she had been in the past with him. She explained that he is fear aggressive and worked through this issue with diligence, patience and understanding. Rocky’s aggression will always be a work in progress but has made huge improvements. With Lisa’s guidance, people can actually come over now. He licks them and is friendly! I highly recommend Lisa and the Sit Means Sit team. Her knowledge of dogs is unbelievable and she has helped us every step of the way! Thanks again for your professional, yet friendly support!

I first met Lisa because of SAR training. To be honest, I was not a fan of e-collars and was not shy about it. But I started seeing Lisa and her dogs regularly at training and her Bloodhound was off-leash – and happy! It made me think. I started to change my mind when I saw another team member get his Bloodhound off-leash because of e-collar training with Lisa.

I was hesitant, but I began to train my Bloodhound, Maisie with the e-collar and I now trust her off-leash, too! For a Bloodhound person this is almost unheard of. When we got our German Shepherd, Matilda, we started using the remote collar and love the freedom it gives us and her. For someone who was anti-collar, I’m now one of the biggest advocates for this tool, when it is used correctly.

We started with Sit Means Sit when Gunner was just a puppy. He learned basic commands in the 4-6 month old class, but was still a handful. His energy, general stubborn attitude and exuberance for life made him very difficult to live with as he matured. We arranged for Gunner to do a 10-day boot camp and crossed our fingers. We couldn’t walk him one the leash, did not trust him off-leash, could not open a door without him bolting out, would jump and bark for attention and was shy around new people and dogs. The day he came home from his jump start Luci was able to walk him on a loose leash confidently. His manners at home have changed drastically and it’s like we have a whole new dog!

My brother was a client of Sit Means Sit and had been telling me for months to call to schedule lessons for Joey, my Cavapoo puppy. It wasn’t until he was in the vet for emergency care (because he stole medication from the counter) that I called to book training. Joey stayed with Lisa for a 10-day boot camp and is a totally different dog now. Our family is very busy, and Joey is very high energy. He was constantly jumping and stealing things and would not come back. Everything was a game for him. He learned basic obedience, confidence, self-control and attention while he was gone – I tell everyone about it – and would send another dog for training in a second.
