Fall Activities To Do With Your Dog

Fall is a fun time of the year, whether you’re a human or a dog. From piles of leaves to play in, nature walks to take in the crisp air, to festivals galore, there is always something going on to enjoy the last nice days of the year before winter sets in. If you’re wondering what fun activities you can take part in with your pup, you’re in luck! We’re going to list a few fun activities this fall for you and your dog to enjoy together and a few training ideas to go along with them!

Find a pet-friendly fall festival.

Use this chance to get out of the house to work on distractions and greeting strangers with your dog.

Go pumpkin or apple picking.

This is a great way to work on the “leave -it” command to keep your dog from trying to sample any fallen apples or exploded pumpkins on the ground.

Take in a nature walk.

A perfect opportunity to work on “place” commands in unique places, walking off-leash (if allowed), or heeling.

Dress up together for Halloween.

Be sure to not force any costume pieces on your dog that may make him uncomfortable or scared. This is a great opportunity to work on door manners.

Enjoy a hayride or corn maze.

What a fun bonding experience together to search for your way out!

Invite him to the tailgate party.

Another good way to work on the “leave it” command or “place”, “wait”, or “stay”.

Rake a big pile of leaves and play in it together.

Hide a favorite toy or some food and have your dog sniff it out. It will be great fun for both of you! Be sure to check for ticks after!

Enjoy some relaxation by a campfire.

Make sure not to let your dog get too close. This is a great way to work on “place” or “stay” commands to keep your dog back from the fire.

Find a Halloween or turkey 5K to run with your dog.

Everyone gets some exercise with this fun activity!

Take some selfies.

Fall creates a beautiful backdrop to take outside pictures with your dog. These will create memories that will last forever.

** Make sure to check with the event organizer and any rules and regulations regarding dogs or pets when making plans for any of these activities**
