As Seen Training On

Our team at Sit Means Sit in Fort Collins has been finding great success in training dogs away from aggression and towards a better life. We believe that through certain dog training programs and with the assistance of professionals who approach the situation with compassion, any dog can be transformed from a source of stress to a true canine companion. Whether you are a new puppy parent and need help with potty training, have an anxious dog, a dog with a love for counter surfing, or a dog struggling with behavior challenges, we’re confident our trainers and training services can be an invaluable asset.
We offer day training sessions inclusive of topics such as basic obedience training, loose leash walking, group classes, private lessons, and some in-home puppy training lessons as well, but if your dog is struggling with behavior challenges such as severe as reactivity, separation anxiety, or aggression, it could be that these options aren’t enough, and they need additional support. You might find yourself in need of a course that’s proven to work with proven techniques, but doesn’t use harsh methods or force. If that’s you, Aggression Board & Train is the training method for you.
You can set up a free consultation with one of our fantastic trainers to see our Fort Collins facility and learn more about our dog training methods, services, programs, and techniques. It’s a good idea to bring your aggressive dog in a muzzle to avoid the likelihood of an incident, since there are many people and dogs on the premises.
Experienced Dog Trainers & Evidence-Based Training
Every member of our staff is experienced, highly trained, and well-equipped for teaching dogs in every phase and stage of their lives. We see our services as a means of improving all the lives we touch. We don’t just want to take the cold approach of training dogs to make the world more pleasant, we’re here to make your life more fulfilling, as well as the life of your dog. This leads to a happier life for dogs and dog owners alike. Our training goals, methods, and programs are designed to cater to each dog’s unique needs and behaviors. Much like humans, all dogs learn differently in a way that works best for them.
When there’s mutual trust, clear communication, and boundaries combined with established expectations, the bond that can form between a dog and their owner is incredibly deep. Many problems can be resolved through our popular Day Train and Jumpstart Puppy programs, where owners can see immediate results, but sometimes, our Board & Train is the best option to meet your training goals with an aggressive dog and help them reach their full potential.

Phase 1
Group classes aren’t the right call to address dog behavior issues, which is why the first training session with us is spent in a small and private environment to reduce stress and help your pup maintain focus. Our trainers understand your dog may be dealing with separation anxiety and stress. With that in mind, we move slowly and allow the dog to get comfortable with the new setting while observing their body language. We use a loose leash and a collar for communication so that your dog can feel in control and become less resistant to instruction.
Phase 2
Depending on the dog’s comfort level and how far they progressed on day 1, they might need to continue with the muzzle for day 2. Our dog trainer will be working on eye contact and physical touch, which means trainers will be in close contact with your dog. Remember that muzzles aren’t bad. They’re just another tool that can be used for good on your training journey.
While we build on these challenging concepts of human interaction, we also give your dog something they can master fairly quickly. This skill-building includes simple commands such as “heel,” “place,” and advanced “sit.” Because most dogs get these in a short amount of time, this day works to build a lot of confidence and keep your dog encouraged in their training. The use of positive reinforcement is key for all training programs, as dogs learn best when they are rewarded for good behavior.
Phase 3
Day 3 is when we move to off-leash control. Not only will the same level of obedience be required, but distractions will be added, such as other dogs moving or barking in the distance and unfamiliar trainers interacting with your dog, which helps if your pup has stranger danger. This creates an environment where we can reinforce the dog training in a setting that’s similar to the challenges your dog will experience in the real world.
Phase 4
Day 4 is when we put it all together in preparation for the finale. Distractions are increased because the outside world is full of other dogs and humans your dog has never seen or smelled before. It’s necessary to plan for many situations, as stressful events can trigger an aggressive outburst, which we wish to avoid at all costs. Our goal is to have your dog maintain focus and rely on the skills they’ve built over the past few days.
Phase 5
Day 5, bring in the dog owners! Your dog no longer requires leashes or muzzles, but they do need a strong leader to keep them on the right path. We’ll have you come in and join in on the dog training session so that you can continue to encourage good behaviors in every situation. Your dog’s trainer will help equip you with the knowledge, training tips, and support you need to reinforce training at home with your furry friend.
This course is typically done over 2 or 3 weeks, as behavioral issues come in all shapes and sizes. Once your pup has completed the Board & Train component of the training program, we give you additional ongoing support through Monthly Refreshers. These Monthly Refreshers are offered in lieu of group training classes with other dogs, as we find that private lessons with our dog trainer allow for personalized continuing education to ensure your canine companion is well-behaved for the years to come.
