Here are the best dog-friendly trails in Connecticut.
Bear Mountain Trail
This 6.1-mile loop near Taconic, CT is generally considered to be a moderately challenging route. It will take roughly 3 and 1/2 hours to complete and as it is popular for backpacking, camping, and birding, you will likely encounter people along the route. Dogs are always welcome and are even allowed off-leash in some areas.
Chauncey Peak Trail
This 2.2-mile loop is located near Meridan, CT, and is regarded as being moderately challenging. It will take about an hour to complete with an elevation gain of over 350 feet! Take in the scenic views with your pooch who is even allowed off-leash in certain areas.
Southford Falls Red Trail
This 1.4-mile-long loop is considered pretty easy to complete due to its low elevation gain and shorter path. It should take about 45 minutes to complete while you take in the scenic views of the pond. You will likely encounter people running, birding, or getting some exercise with their children on this path.
Lake Mohegan Loop
This 2.1-mile loop around Lake Mohegan offers stunning views all year round. Due to its low elevation gain, it is considered pretty easy and will take less than 45 minutes to complete. It is located near Fairfield, CT and it can get pretty muddy after a good rain so come prepared!
Mohawk Trail and Appalachian Trail Loop
If you and Fido are looking to be challenged, this 35.5-mile loop near Cornwall Bridge is considered very difficult. Since this trail is so long and takes so long to complete (over 18 hours!) it is a popular trail for backpackers and campers who break the trip up into two or more days. Over the course of the trail you will gain over 7,000 feet of elevation, experience amazing views, and maybe even run into some wildlife.
