Our team at Sit Means Sit is here to help when you have an aggressive or reactive dog. We know how difficult this can be around your home and how much you want your furry friend to get along with the animals and people around them.

That is why our dog trainers are here to help every step of the way, providing a training journey that considers your dog’s training situation. While many of our classes will happen in our facility, there may be circumstances where we come to your home or even head to the park to provide the perfect opportunity for your dog to learn and grow.

We have multiple options, depending on the levels of your dog’s needs. Some times we work with your dog in one of our existing programs. Other dogs need a more customized, private training program where we coach you as the owner through their behavior needs.

Attention-Based Dog Training Services in Long Beach, CA

Dog aggression is something that is a huge risk and an important concern for dog owners who struggle with a pet that is too reactive in certain situations. These owners want to make sure that they can fight the aggression and have a happy and healthy dog the whole time. That is why we are proud to offer in-person dog training that can make that happen. Sure, we do work with aggression in dogs, but our best dog training will focus on any skill or behavioral problem that is bothering your dog, not just one problem.

We know that every dog is unique, from a rescue pup to a German Shepherd, so we are happy to go at your own pace. Going too fast or ignoring your pup when they feel separation anxiety or other problems will make the training backfire, and our dog trainers will have to start at the beginning. There are many training methods that a professional dog trainer on our team can use, including:

  • Private training
  • Attention-Base Training Techniques
  • Running off energy
  • Basic commands
  • Good manners
  • How to fight off behavioral issues

We can pair up your dog with an awesome trainer who will work on your dog’s behavior, teaching them basic manners and reaching all of your training goals. The end result is an obedient dog or puppy who will no longer have behavior issues and can get along in their own home.

An example of how our training sessions will go includes:

Phase 1

This program is all about listening to your dog and making sure that they feel comfortable with our trainers. If we are going too fast, we can pull back your dog’s training until it is just right for them. For effective training to occur, your dog needs to feel like they can trust our trainers and feel comfortable, so that is what we will focus on during this time.

Phase 2

Now that we have taken the time to help your dog work through separation anxiety and become good friends with their trainer, it is time to work on training techniques that will help with obedience training. Everyone wants an obedient dog, right? That is what we can focus on in the second phase. This is a good time to work on obedience training, such as focusing on basic commands like sit and heel. These will be helpful when leash pulling becomes an issue or if two dogs come together and tend to clash.

Phase 3

Your dog is getting smarter and learning new skills each day, and we are proud of them. Once we feel confident that they know some commands and basic obedience, it is time to move on to more of a group setting. If we can get them to begin behaving around the distraction of other dogs, then we are making good progress in this phase.

Phase 4

When we feel confident that the training program has progressed enough, we can take the obedience training to the next level. During this part of dog training, we will introduce other dogs and humans into the mix and see whether your dog is able to stay focused and do well listening to the trainer. The goal is to help your dog stay calm around others, though the amount of time this takes can depend on your dog’s specific skills and needs.

Phase 5

Your dog will work in more of a group setting during this last part of our training. They will have other dogs around, other humans, and we can even invite you, the dog owner, back into the room to see what will happen. This gives us time to make sure proper training occurs during the training session.

Sit Means Sit Long Beach is an amazing! We have our one year old Husky in training with them and they have worked wonders in a very short period of time. Our Husky is very stubborn and has zero recall when we started, but after just one lesson, she now comes when called without a…

10/10 experience!! I can’t recommend this dog training service enough! My dog used to be extremely reactive to humans and big dogs; walks and outings were stressful and embarrassing because she would bark, lunge, and resource guard me and her treats. After just four private dog training sessions, her behavior completely changed. She’s now calmer,…

We found Lisa-Marie more than 2 years ago to help us with our reactive dog. We tried everything else and multiple other trainers and nothing else worked. Training with Lisa-Marie has allowed us to attend numerous group classes and pack walls which helped our dog’s reactivity immensely. We enrolled our second dog into training as…

I had a great experience with Sit Means Sit for my Beagle. She’s come a long way from where she started. Her leash walking has improved a lot, she sits when I need her to, and she’s much more attentive to commands. The structure and consistency really made a difference. I’m definitely seeing progress and…
