Tips to Keep Your Dog Walk Exciting

Walks are a great way to stay in shape yourself and to ensure that your dog is getting the exercise they need to remain happy and healthy throughout their lives. But if you’re getting sick of going on the same walking route every day with your dog, you’re not alone! Many dog owners feel stagnant in their dog-walking routes. But it doesn’t all have to stay the same every time you take your dog for a walk. Here are some tips for keeping your dog’s walk exciting.

Bring Treats

Part of the reason your walks might feel boring is that your dog could be getting tired or bored. Keep them energized and entertained by giving them dog treats every so often. They’ll be more motivated to keep walking when they have a sweet reward to keep going.

Let Your Dog Lead

While your regular walk route may be ingrained in the both of you, you should try letting your dog lead your walk the next time you set out together. They may find an interesting scent trail to follow that could lead you down an exciting new path! Who knows what you could discover when you let your dog take the reins. Plus, letting them lead is more mentally stimulating for them.

Bring Friends and Family

While spending time with those who we are not living with is still difficult during the pandemic, you can take socially distanced walks with friends and family members to ensure that you’re getting the social time you need throughout the week. Walking and talking is a great way to combine exercise and socialization, so bring a friend or family member the next time you walk your dog! Your dog will appreciate the extra company and so will you.

Try New Trails

Aside from letting your dog lead the way on your walks, you should try out new parks, hiking trails, and local paths to walk on. That way, you and your dog can explore new areas together and embrace the fresh air and beautiful lands around you. You shouldn’t feel like you’re doing the same thing every day – change it up by changing the location of your walks! Even if it involves a little extra driving, we promise it’s worth it.

Keeping your walks exciting can be difficult, but change is always welcome when we feel stuck in a way of doing things. Keep this in mind as you use these tips to change up your walking routine. Happy trails!
