2023 Wiener Dog Championship Races & Pet Expo @ Old World Village

Weiner dog races are back! On Sunday, November 12th, head on down to Old World German Village to check out this adorable sport! While down at the Old World Village, make sure to check the amazing pet expo and makers market.

Weiner Dog Races

Weiner dog races have been around since the 1970s. Many believe these races originated in Germany. But, they came from California, at the UC David veterinary school’s picnic day. Originally called the Doxie Derby, these weiner races now take place all over the country. While some are intense about this sport, the Old World Village Weiner’s races are a  fun, family-friendly tradition that celebrates our hot-dog-shaped little friends. If you are interested in entering your pooch, the rules are quite simple. Whichever dog reaches the end of the short race track wins! Owners can bring their doxie’s favorite toys or treats to encourage them to make it to the end of the finish line.
