DIY Cone Alternatives for Dogs

DIY Cone Alternatives for Dogs

While many of our dogs have needed a cone at one time or another, those plastic rings can be very uncomfortable. But there are many ways to DIY these cones. Keep reading to learn the best DIY cone alternatives!

Pool Noodles

These pool noodles will restrict Fido’s movement while still being comfortable. First, cut your pool noodles into 2-inch sections using a serrated knife. Next, use a knife or scissors to make the holes in the pool noodle bigger.  Then, string your furry friend’s collar through the noodles! Just make sure the collar isn’t too tight or restrictive. You can check this by sliding your finger between the color and your pup’s neck. If your finger slides easily, it fits!

Paper Plate

This DIY cone is best for smaller breeds. First, stack three paper plates and fold them in half twice. Next, cut the plates’ corners in a half circle. Then, open one of the folds, cut along the bottom crease of the plates, and set aside a plate. Cut the plates along the creases until you have four halves. Finally, wrap the plates around Fido’s head, stapling the edges to keep the plates in place!

Towel

This DIY cone is extremely comfortable. All you need for this DIY is a towel and some duct tape. Just simply fold the towel in half, and wrap it around your pup’s head. Then, secure the towel with some duct tape! However, this DIY is only for pups with back paws or torso injuries, as it does not stop Fido from licking his front paws.

Travel Pillow

This easy solution doesn’t require any construction! You only need to take a travel pillow from your home and secure it around your furry friend’s neck. This will restrict Fido from licking his paws or aggravating any injuries! The soft pillow is also extremely comfortable for your pup!
