Tips for Entertaining Your Dog

A bored dog is often a destructive dog! Dogs can get bored easily and turn to less than ideal ways of entertainment like chewing, barking, or whining. Dogs need a lot of stimulation to keep them happy. A lack of stimulation for your dog can lead to depression, anxiety, aggression, and becoming overweight. You want to make sure you are giving your dog proper playtime and entertainment to prevent them from lashing out with bad behavior.

Bored Dog?

There are a few tell-tale signs that your dog is bored or understimulated. It is most apparent when you observe a behavior or reaction change.

Signs of under-stimulation can be:

  • Biting
  • Crying/whining
  • Digging
  • Pacing
  • Lethargy
  • Tail chasing
  • Chewing

If your dog starts these behaviors regularly, then that’s a sign something is wrong. Try interacting positively with your dog more and introduce them to more forms of stimulation.

Considering bonding with your dog by:

  • Taking a walk in a new area
  • Go for a bike ride
  • Play a game of fetch with a new toy
  • Visit a new dog park
  • Build or buy an obstacle course
  • Go for a hike
  • Plan a play date with another pup
  • Go out for a treat at a dog bakery

Keeping your dog entertained is overall positive for their well-being and your sanity! Stimulation helps keep your canine companion healthy mentally and physically. You may also want to try out a puzzle toy for at-home entertainment!
