Dog Parks in Lakewood CO
Lakewood, Colorado is a suburb of Denver that is just southwest of downtown Denver. It is the 5th most populous city in Colorado, and as such has not just a large population of people but also that of dogs (and dog owners like you). Training your dog or new puppy can be difficult, so we thought we would provide some tips and resources to folks living specially in Lakewood so you would have some local options for your needs.
From the best local dog parks in Lakewood, to spots to buy food and supplies, to the best dog training in Denver, we have the resources to help. Obviously we help folks with dog training and boarding, but we also want to be a resource to dog owners who are trying to either train on their own, or simply trying to find resources to better care for their dog.
Dog Parks in Lakewood
Denver is beloved for it’s synergy with the outdoors. One of the biggest appeals of Denver (and Lakewood) is the proximity to wonderful outdoor experiences like skiing, biking, hiking and more. Another benefit of being in Denver is the surplus of amazing dog parks. The list below is simply a highlight of some dog parks that are worth checking out, and definitely is not a comprehensive list. Definitely try to check out other dog parks in the Lakewood area that are not listed here!
Forsberg Park
Forsberg Park is west of Lakewood a few miles, and has some of the best views in the city along with walking/biking trails and a fabulous off-leash dog park. It has restrooms in working order as of the writing of this article, and is generally a lovely place to visit and play with your dog, especially if you are looking for a spot for a nice long walk (with a view) and then some time to run around off leash before or after.
Barnum Dog Park
Barnum Dog Park is closer to downtown Denver, and might be best for a quick walk as it is smaller and is mostly gravel. According to some reviews it has some issues with poop cleanup from some owners, but generally has positive experiences for most dog owners. As usual just make sure you clean up after your pooch!
Wynetka Ponds Bark Park
Further South in Littleton, this is a great park with large spaces and plenty of water bowls. It is part of the South Suburban Recreation System which has many different types of facilities, so definitely check this out if you are looking to go a little more south.
Other Resources
One interesting thing about Denver is it’s robust dog food pantry services for those who might need a little help affording dog food. In Lakewood there is a resource available at The Action Center. Check out this unique resource to learn more about volunteer opportunities or how to work with them.
