Dog Training in Lakewood: SukaAt Sit Mean Sit South Denver, dog training isn’t just what we do, it’s our passion. As leading providers of dog training in Lakewood and the surrounding communities, we have the pleasure of watching dogs and their owners make major strides week after week. It’s this progress that keeps us going and helps hundreds of families each year raise happy, confident, obedient dogs. This is precisely why we’re excited to feature Suka in today’s dog spotlight.

When we first met Suka, she quickly mastered a few of her basic obedience skills but struggled with walking on a leash. In a very short period of time she has shown tons of progress. Let’s take a closer look at her Lakewood dog training skills and how they have evolved.

Sit & Place

From her first one-on-one training session, Suka did great with her sit and place commands. Her ability to focus and hold these commands was really quite impressive and serves as the baseline for her ongoing dog training efforts. Way to go Suka!

Leash

One of Suka’s biggest struggles has always been walking on a leash. From pulling to showing aggression, this behavior is one we identified early and aimed to correct. During her first training session, Suka struggled to obey basic leash commands. Over the coming day she first began to improve her leash skills indoors but when taken outside and met with distraction, her old habit came back pretty quickly. With some more practice and guidance, Suka began to turn a corner. After a few more sessions, she was practices off leash walking and even accepted meet and greets without aggression. This was a huge milestone for Suka!

Meet & Greet

One of the most important skills we work on with dogs is meeting and greeting new people and other dogs. Some pups are timid, and others are aggressive. During one of her early sessions, Suka lost bladder control when touched. In addition, she lacked impulse control in certain situations which was manifested through aggression. After some hard work and much deserved praise from her trainer, Suka began to let her guard down and show signs of confidence. This was another major stride for Suka!
