Dog-Friendly Trails in Baltimore

Spring has sprung! Time to get outside and explore our beautiful local trails! Luckily, Baltimore is home to hundreds of trails for you and Fido to walk through in 2023. With over 400 trails within a 30-mile radius, there are many to choose from! We rounded up our top five favorites from AllTrails.com, a fantastic resource for pet parents to find important trail information beforehand. Keep reading to find your new favorite hiking spot!

Lake Roland Park Red Trail

2.7-mile loop, 150 ft elevation gain

Located in North Baltimore, Lake Roland Park is a well-loved, beautiful trail that takes less than an hour to complete! Popular for hiking, bike riding, and bird watching, ensure to keep Fido on their leash so they don’t interfere with other trail users. The trail has a 4.4-star rating from over 990 positive reviews!

Fort McHenry Seawall Trail

.9-mile loop, 22 ft elevation gain

If you need a quick twenty-minute loop for you and your furry friend to kill some time, the Fort McHenry Seawall is a scenic spot in the middle of Baltimore. Although they charge an entry fee, the loop has intriguing statues and historical landmarks to admire while you stroll. Dogs are required to be leashed, as there are a lot of runners on this trail.

Cylburn Arboretum Trail

1.4-mile loop, 180 ft elevation gain

Next, a few miles south of Lake Roland, is the Cylburn Arboretum! Within the arboretum is the trail that stretches outside the park for a refreshing one-and-a-half-mile loop! This trail is quite popular with pet parents, their furry friends, and bikers, so keep Fido on their leash. Additionally, the park is closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly.

Baltimore Waterfront Promenade

4.7-mile out-and-back, 59 ft elevation gain

If you’re in downtown Baltimore and want a long waterside stroll, check out the Waterfront Promenade! Stretching 4.7 miles along the Northwest Harbor, this trail is one of the best in the city! It takes about an hour and a half to complete fully or go as long as you and your pup can. This trail is quite popular, so we recommend earlier in the day if you’re bringing Fido along.

Herring Run Greenway ~ Lake Montebello

5.7-mile loop, 196 ft elevation gain

Lastly, the Herring Run Greenway is for our super-active pups! If you need to wear out your dog, take them on this trail, and they’ll sleep the day away. On average, this trail takes under two hours to complete; most famous for hiking, walking, and biking.
