Frozen Blueberry Dog Treats

Frozen Blueberry Dog Treats

Looking for a yummy and easy frozen treat for your pup to enjoy while they cool off in the summer months? Or a healthier alternative to their normal goodies? Look no further than some delicious frozen blueberry treats for your dog to chow down on! This all-natural treat is perfect for dog-owners who want to be hands-on and give their pup something special to look forward to.

Ingredients

These frozen treats are simple in their ingredient list, but you can always mix up some ingredients to personalize your dog’s treats, or if they’re allergic to something! Just be sure not to include any toxic ingredients to dogs, like grapes.

  • Yogurt– Use an unsweetened, or low-fat if your dog is on a special diet, greek yogurt. Be sure to check with your vet if your dog is lactose intolerant before giving them dairy. You can substitute the yogurt with chicken stock if needed, but do not use a non-dairy alternative as nuts can sometimes be toxic or unhealthy for dogs!
  • Blueberries– Frozen, regular, or freeze-dried blueberries are perfect for this treat. You could also add in cranberries or strawberries if you don’t have blueberries, but make sure to avoid dried fruits as they can contain an excess of sugar.
  • Banana– Mash half a banana for these treats, you may even add a bit of peanut butter for flavor. Although the banana already adds some natural sweetness to the treat.

Dog Treat Mold

Look for a mold that is freezer/oven friendly. You can find ones in all types of unique shapes, but make sure the mold you get is small or big enough for your pup’s mouth!

You may even opt for a silicone baking cup mold if you have a large dog that’s an aggressive chewer. It is less likely they’ll swallow the treat whole and instead take their time to enjoy themselves.

Storing Treats

Feel free to pop the treats out of the mold and freeze them in individual or large freezer bags. Treats can last anywhere from 1-3 months if stored safely and tightly, but they might not last that long once your dog gets a taste of them!

Making The Treats

Making these frozen treats couldn’t be easier and your dog is sure to love them!

  1. Gather all ingredients.
    • ¾ cup of blueberries, frozen preferably
    • ½ of a ripe banana
    • ¾ cup of unflavored greek yogurt
  2. Add all ingredients into a blender or food processor and blend until incorporated, about 60-90 seconds.
  3. Fill the mixture into your molds and store in the freezer to set about 5 hours.
  4. Remove treats from the mold once set and give to your furry friend to enjoy!
