Tips for Raising a Puppy While Working Full-Time

Having a job and raising a puppy can be difficult. Not only are you sad to leave your puppy all day, but it can be hard to ensure your pup is being well cared for if you can’t be with them during the work day.

Raising a puppy and working full-time is a balancing act so here are out best tips to help make it a little easier!

Potty Help

Puppies above the age of 8 weeks old usually need to take a potty trip at least every 3 hours, if not more. If popping in and out of your house throughout the work day to take your pup out isn’t an option, you may need to lean on some support from others to help you out.

If you have a close-by friend or neighbor, reach out and see if they would mind coming over a few times throughout the day to let your pooch outside.

If you can’t get help from friends or neighbors, don’t worry! There are some other options.

You can opt to hire a dog walker or a puppy sitter to drop by a few times a day and take Fido for a lap around the block. There are even apps, like Rover, that exist to help you find a dog walker that you trust.

Another option if you want your dog to have a little more supervision is to drop your dog off at a friend’s house or doggy daycare. With these options, you know that someone is there to keep an eye on your pooch throughout the day and make sure your puppy’s needs are being met.

Leave Your Pup Tired

If you can’t have someone playing with your puppy all day, dedicate some time before work to wear your pooch out. Take them on a nice long walk or engage in some stimulating activities so that when it’s time for you to head out the door, your pooch is pooped. They will sleep through the first half of the day!

Keep Fido Occupied

Have plenty of toys and activities for your dog to play with while you’re gone. Puppies love squealy chew toys and will chew the day away.

Also, puzzle toys are a great way for Fido to get some mental stimulation, a little snack, and wear themselves out again. If you have someone come over to let your pup go potty, have them give your dog a puzzle toy to play with during the second half of the day. The mental stimulation will wear them out and they will take another long nap.

Pet Cameras

Monitor your pet’s activities throughout the day with a pet camera. This will allow you to check in throughout the day, see what Fido is up to, talk to them through your device, and some even dispense treats to your pet.

These cameras allow you to know what your pet is up to throughout the day, entertain them a bit, and stay connected.

Working full-time with a new puppy can be difficult, but with a little support, you can keep your puppies needs met throughout the day so you can have an amazing evening together.
