Tips to Beat the Summer Heat with Your Dog

Tips to Beat the Summer Heat with Your Dog

Summertime is a great time to enjoy the warm weather, but the fact of the matter is, sometimes it’s just too hot to spend time out in the sun! For days that you don’t feel like venturing out in the heat, we have plenty of indoor activities for you and your dog to stay entertained without overheating. Check out our list below!

Teach Your Old Dog New Tricks

The old saying may deem it impossible, but whoever first coined the phrase hadn’t met you and your dog! With some patience and determination, your dog will surely catch onto any number of cool tricks. Staying in the cool air-conditioning is the perfect excuse to work on that party trick that you always wish you could show off to your friends. Check out some training guides and get to work!

“Find the Treat” Game

If you’ve ever tried playing hide-and-seek with your dog, you’ve probably realized that it’s pretty hard to motivate them to go find something unless it’s edible and smells like bacon. Hide one of your dog’s favorite treats (challenge them, but don’t make it too difficult!) and let them loose to go hunt for it. This is a fun game for you and a great mental exercise for your dog – everyone’s happy!

Try a Puzzle

While your dog probably won’t be any use in a jigsaw puzzle, (those thumbs can’t do much in that area, unfortunately) there are lots of dog-friendly puzzles involving food and other interactive elements that your dog will enjoy fiddling with for hours. It’s pretty entertaining to watch your intelligent pooch work out dog-friendly puzzles, but it’s also a great way to distract your dog while you cook, read, or relax.

Put on a Movie

Although your dog may not be able to appreciate watching TV as much as you do, they still make for great cuddle buddies. Stay inside and cool off in the air conditioning while watching one of your favorite films. Looking for something to watch that your dog can enjoy along with you and the rest of the family? Try a new dog movie! After all, who doesn’t love a good dog movie?!

At-Home Grooming

If you’re stuck inside, you might as well be productive while you’re at it. Consider cleaning, clipping, and pampering your dog on your day indoors. You could even turn it into a mini spa day! Although grooming your dog yourself may be daunting, it’s a great bonding experience with your furry friend and they’ll look so much better when you’re done!

This summer is going to be another hot one, so be prepared to spend some days out of the sun and in your cool home. Using these tips can flip your day stuck inside into a fun indoor adventure!
