10 Spooky Movies to Watch With Your Dog

It’s almost Halloween, which means it’s Halloween movie season! While scary movies are fun, not all suit our furry friends. So, we’ve rounded up the ten best scary and not-so-scary movies to watch with your pup.

Scary Movies

Cujo

This iconic film follows a rabid St. Bernard named Cujo as he terrorizes a small town. A mom and son must survive Cujo’s horrifying rampage. This terrifying movie is one of Stephen King’s most iconic works, making it perfect for Halloween.

The Breed

This 2006 film follows a rag-tag group of college students home on break. But soon, their cabin is actually attacked by a pack of rabid dogs that have escaped a nearby research facility. The Breed will have you on the edge of your seat the entire film.

Man’s Best Friend

This Halloween flick follows the family of a newly adopted Rottweiler. Little do they know, this pooch has recently escaped from an evil mad scientist! So, the mad scientist needs to track down his creation before his killer instincts kick in!

Pet Semetary

This terrifying film will have you howling in fear. It follows the Creed family as they move to a remote Maine town with a deep secret: the Pet Semetary can return pets from the dead! But when town residents start to push the Pet Semetary’s rules, things get deadly. This is actually the second Stephen King book on our list and is another perfect Halloween flick.

I am Legend

This film follows Robert Neville as he braces an apocalyptic plague that infects New York City. He is joined by his trusty canine sidekick, Sam, as they fight for their lives. While this is a great choice for a horror movie, heed this spoiler warning. If you are sensitive to pet death, this movie has a particularly heartbreaking scene you probably want to avoid.

Not-So-Scary Movies

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

Frankenweenie

This heartfelt movie is great for the Halloween season. Frankenweenie is an adorable retelling of the classic Frankenstein story we all know and love. Vincent, a leading mad scientist, tries to bring his beloved pup back from the dead, and hijinks ensue.

Spooky Buddies

While you might be aware of the iconic Airbud, his puppies have their own film series!  Spooky Buddies is a sweet story following the six offspring of the basketball-playing “Airbud”! This movie follows these six siblings as they strive to defeat the evil Warwick the Warlock.

The Nightmare Before Christmas

While this movie is technically both a Halloween and Christmas movie, it’s still a great movie for a spooky season! This movie follows Jack Skellington, King of Halloween Town. He discovers the magical holiday of Christman and decides to take the role of Santa Claus.

Scooby Doo

This laugh-out-loud comedy is great for the whole family. Scooby Doo follows the iconic Mystery Gang as they investigate wacky paranormal instances.
